My breasts were groped three times in less than ten minutes after entering a gay club, each time by what appeared to be cis gender gay man. Each time without my consent.
Yall, please remember that our shared queerness & your lack of sexual attraction to women doesn’t mean you can touch my body without consent. Let’s make #Pride safe for everyone.
Just adding to the thread that I was out to dance & love giving/getting compliments & attention in queer spaces. I come out to be seen in my community. But being seen & being objectified aren’t the same thing. There were many femmes & studs out giving me love w/out touch.

I appreciate folks recommending their fav public intellectuals to me. I looked at so many websites yesterday & it’s really helpful. So as a thank you, here is a thread for transparency on what I’m doing here.
My original tweet said that I was looking for models & mentors. That language is very purposeful. I recognize, particularly at this point in my career, that the people I want to learn from are excessively busy & in demand.
Looking for models means finding people who appear to be doing the kind of work you want to do (or living the kind of life you want to live) & learning as much as you can about how they did it.

I’ve been thinking about how this traumatized a generation of queer folks who lost friends & meant those coming of age in the 00’s had so few queer adults in our lives too, so few models for living a long happy queer life. We are impacted by their absence.
This is why I fight so hard to be a present, out, queer adult in the lives of all my friends’ kids. I remember the few folks I read as queer as being lifelines for me even as I never spoke to them about queerness. I just watched them as often as I could from a distance.
My elementary school gym teacher. The public library volunteer. My high school religion teacher. My neighbor’s adult sister. They were few & far between in small town KY, but I saw them. I committed them to memory. Their existence let me know there was something else out there.

Hi, can folks point me toward people, preferably women, queers & POCs, who have made careers as public intellectuals but who keep ties with universities for primary employment? I’m looking for models, for mentors, on how to do this work I want to do better.
Current folks I’m thinking about include Melissa Harris Perry, Roxane Gay, Brittney Cooper, but also Cornell West & Angela Davis who have worked off & on at universities.
To be clear: I really like my job and want to stay. But I am interested in doing more public speaking & writing that reaches outside of academic audiences too.

Thread about airplane creeps: I’m on a plane from a late-evening stopover from and was very tired and had a row to myself to sleep but couldn’t avoid noticing what was going on in the row behind me.
A man appearing in his late thirties was obviously delighted to be seated next to a teenager separated from the rest of her family. He started off by asking about her career plans and laughed when she said she wanted to be CEO and kept giving her ridiculous advice.
She was friendly and he seemed to take that as a welcome cue to get very familiar and started teasing her and kept saying that he wanted to take her out to eat, which she was ignoring. At this point I had to stay awake in case anything went further than that.

@BFMradio :: The letter is addressed to members of the media. Not to members of the public. Regardless of good intention, fwding the letter to those other than intended reader is to violate the writer’s agency. If you want to help, don't start by disregarding what the writer intends.
@BFMradio The writer is already aware of the high cost s/he may face for disclosing this. Exposing wrongful power practices - and sexual harassment is a form of wrongful practice of power - is always risky.

Man, this whole non-compete contract thing is about two of my major grievances with the beer industry: the obsession with recipes and people thinking they own their employees.
More important than the recipe point (which is one of my largest pet peeves), non-competes are a formalized statement of owning your employees’ time to the degree that they cannot use whatever skills or knowledge came out of that time without your consent.
That’s a bullshit opinion.
