At a time when a handful of Tory members are about to decide who the next UK Prime Minister will be, this matters, not least because some of Tory leadership front-runners including Boris Johnson, Michael Gove and Dominic Raab are tied to this network of thinktanks and lobbyists.
This network is tied to major US funders of climate science denial including the Koch brothers and Robert Mercer, who also bankrolled Donald Trump. It is influencing UK politics at the highest level, pushing for a hard or no-deal Brexit and a US-UK free trade deal.
The heart of this network is located at 55 Tufton Street, around the corner from Westminster, home to the UK's only climate science denier organisation, the Global Warming Policy Foundation (GWPF). The GWPF was founded by former Chancellor Nigel Lawson 👇desmog.co.uk/global-warming…
55 Tufton St is also 🏠to other right-wing 'thinktanks' and lobby groups pushing for deregulation and a hard-Brexit: IEA, Taxpayers's Alliance, Civitas, New Culture Forum and Business for Britain. 57 Tufton St is 🏠to Centre for Policy Studies and the Initiative for Free Trade.
The wider Tufton Street network (which includes Adam Smith Institute and Legatum Institute among others) was also closely tied to Vote Leave & Leave. EU. Not least because Vote Leave CEO, Matthew Elliott, is connected to so many Tufton St organisations 👇 desmog.co.uk/2018/11/18/mat…
Elliott, now an advisor to Tory leader hopeful Sajid Javid, honed his lobbying skills in the 🇺🇸 with Grover Norquist, head of the low-tax advocacy group Americans for Tax Reform, largely funded by the Koch brothers & a member of the climate science denier Cooler Heads Coalition.
Leave. EU & team Nigel Farage, Arron Banks & Andy Wigmore also have strong affinities with 🇺🇸right-wing lobbyists and Koch-funded organisations. Remember that infamous Trump Tower meeting? Meetings with Steve Bannon? And with the Robert-Mercer funded Cambridge Analytica?
Since, Nigel Farage launched the Brexit Party, which is not short of climate science deniers.... and has some powerful business allies including Richard Tice and lobbyist John Longworth. But also the support of younger campaigners... 👇

This brings us to Turning Point UK & its chairman George Farmer, former MEP candidate for Brexit Party. TPUK is the outpost of the neo-conservative and pro-Trump Turning Point USA, led by fossil-fuel industry backed Charlie Kirk and formerly Candace Owens, also Farmer's fiancee.
Turning Point has been endorsed by many Koch-funded organisations and Donald Trump himself. In the UK, the group has received the support of Chloe Westley of the Taxpayers' Alliance & Tom Harwood, formerly head of the student branch of Vote Leave and now Guido Fawkes reporter.
On Turning Point, the Tory Party said to its young members "don't work with them"... Let's turn to the Tufton St network's influence in the media: many columnists and contributors to right-wing papers don't always disclose their connections to the network & they probably should.
For example: City AM's editor Christian May is an advisor to the IEA. IEA's Kate Andrews also has a column in the paper. So does Koch-funded Cato Institute's Ryan Bourne, Economists for Free Trade member Graeme Leach and Taxpayers' Alliance founder Matthew Elliott.
GWPF founder Nigel Lawson's son, Dominic Lawson, spreads disinformation about climate change in 👉 Daily Mail. Dominic is married to daughter of Christopher Monckton, a notorious climate science denier whose work was financed by Edgar Miller convener of Economists for Free Trade.
These connections go on and on....➡️ linking Trump allies like John Bolton to the Koch brothers & climate science deniers back to Tufton Street & members of the DUP, Tory, Brexit and Labour Party. You can explore all these connections on The Map at the top of this thread 👆

Big story published this morning: @matjhope and I have mapped out how Matthew Elliott, Vote Leave CEO & TaxPayers'Alliance founder, & his American wife Sarah Elliott, of Republicans Overseas, fit in a network of US libertarians & #FossilFuel lobbyists who want a US-UK trade deal.
The couple met in the US, through Grover Norquist, of the Americans for Tax Reform, a low-tax campaign which Matthew Elliott later said was a model for him to create the TaxPayers'Alliance in the UK. Elliott also said having learned 'campaign techniques' through Norquist.
The Americans for Tax Reform is known to have received significant donations from the Koch brothers, who have fund climate science denial around the world 👉desmogblog.com/koch-industrie… | Sarah Elliott worked for Americans for Tax Ref & Americans for Prosperity, also funded by Kochs.

Brexit is an absolute shitstorm isn't it .
Back in 2016 I voted leave for what I thought at the time were valid concerns . Mainly over CAP , CFP and the effect on the NHS of the EU possibly implementing TTIP .
Then following the vote your education gets seriously expanded and you learn all manner of new factors such as JIT production lines and WTO rules and tariffs and suchlike and suddenly you think , jesus christ maybe I should have voted remain .
Hardly any of us knew enough about how the EU worked and how the UK would interact with the rest of the world , whether inside or outside the EU , to make a sensible decision over whether to leave or remain back in 2016 .

Founded by New Zealand billionaire Chris Chandler in 2006. Chandler made a fortune in the 80's by investing in "mispriced" assets from countries in crisis (i.e. he and his brother Rich are high class looters).
Interestingly Chandler became a citizen of Malta in 2016. Malta is known to "sell" it's citizenship to elites.

For at least a decade Chandler's Legatum has partnered with Silicon Valley billionaire Pierre Omidyar.

Here's a tldr THREAD
The story centres around a power couple in Brexit politics, Matthew and Sarah Elliott. Matthew was chief of Vote Leave and still has fingers in lots of Brexit pies. Sarah is chair of Republicans overseas, and used to work for fossil fuel magnates the Koch brothers.
In the US, the couple have strong ties to the #Kochtopus network and libertarian Trump-funder Robert Mercer. In the UK, they have strong ties to the remnants of the Leave campaign, and a network of groups lobbying for mass deregulation post-Brexit based out of #TuftonStreet
