1. Some background on this major story which broke yesterday: The Taxpayers' Alliance admitted that 9 "linked" organisations coordinated to vilify @shahmiruk These groups are operating from an office at 55 Tufton Street, around the corner from Westminster.
2. Here is what you need to know about these opaquely-funded libertarian groups, which are pushing for a hard (no-deal) Brexit, advocating deregulation to strike a US-UK free trade deal and include climate science denying Global Warming Policy Foundation👇 desmog.co.uk/2018/07/23/map…
3. @shahmiruk accused the 9 groups of mounting a coordinating campaign to push for a hard-#Brexit and deregulation across the media. The Taxpayers' Alliance has just admitted that, indeed, this is the case and climate science deniers and hard-Brexiters are working together.
4. Note that the founder of the Taxpayers' Alliance is Matthew Elliott, CEO of Vote Leave, editor-at-large of Brexit Central, founder of Business for Britain, former colleagues of Shanker Singham at the Legatum Institute. Singham is now director of international trade at the IEA.
5. There is a lot more to be said about Matthew Elliott and his critical role in the #Brexit and Leave campaign. More info on Elliott @DeSmogUK 👉desmog.co.uk/matthew-elliott and how he fits in a wider transatlantic network with vested interests in #Brexit 👇desmog.co.uk/brexit-climate…
6. Back to @shahmiruk case: the Taxpayers' Alliance took the very unusual step to concede to all allegations because it did not want to be scrutinised in the courts, particularly regarding its funders, who is doesn't disclose. More on that @DeSmogUK soon... keep tuned in.
7. The @Guardian has an editorial about why it matters to have think tanks and policy groups acting as business lobbyists and why broadcasters like the BBC need to differentiate between think tanks and lobbyists before when giving them a platform. 👇theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
8. Something else to look out for in this case: Stephen Parkinson was a senior operative at Vote Leave which was fined by the Electoral Commission for breaching electoral spending rules following whistleblower @shahmiruk raising the alarm on BeLeave. He now works for T May.
9. Parkinson has denied being involved in the BeLeave funding scandal but has been accused of maliciously outing whistleblower @shahmiruk as gay. At the time, Theresa May spokesman said she stood by Parkinson and had full confidence in him. theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/m…
10. Meanwhile, senior Vote Leave members Daniel Hannan, Chloe Westley and Thomas Borwick have joined forces to help set-up the 'Museum of Communist Terror'. Out of eight of the museum's current directors, only one is a historian. Full story 👇desmog.co.uk/2018/11/13/sen…
