Here @slate I explain why knowingly taking foreign opposition research gathered by a foreign government is a crime (that Trump Jr should have been more fully investigated for by Mueller) google.com/amp/s/slate.co…
And for all those in my mentions coming back to the Steele Dossier, the big difference is that it is fine to pay foreign individuals for services at market rates (which is what happened with the Dossier). Not ok to take campaign benefit for free from a foreign government.

This is a key point and shows that whether or not DOJ borrowed from Hoefeller, the motivation was to allow states to engage in redistricting based on voter eligible persons, which would dilute the votes of Hispanic voters---precisely the opposite of what government has said.

1/ Tonight the ACLU asked #SCOTUS to grant a limited remand in the census case so SDNY can consider the Hofeller files. supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/18/1…
2/ The case was placed on an expedited briefing schedule so the government could prepare the census forms in time. But the forms do not need to be printed until Oct. 31. In theory at least, #SCOTUS could hold a special Aug or Sept sitting to decide case in time.

Chief Justice John Roberts "rebuked" Trump.

Now we can all forget about how his Court destroyed the Voting Rights Act, legalized partisan gerrymanders, upheld the Muslim ban, will restrict abortion even further, and has 2 out of 9 of its justices credibly accused of rape.
Roberts is an *extremely* smart person. He knows exactly what he was doing with his "rebuke".
SCOTUS's reputation was damaged by the nomination of Kavanaugh.

Roberts is *desperate* to preserve the Court's reputation so that it can continue to advance GOP policy goals; issuing a statement or two meekly condemning Trump's bullying is apparently a good way to do that.
