Past drug use is no barrier to bring PM but tweets that hurt the feelings of Home Office ministers are apparently a deal breaker for experts seeking to work with the department.
Its a big concern that a department where severe institutional failings inflicted misery and even deportation on large numbers of black British citizens in the "Windrush" scandal now regards social media criticism of their failings as relevant to hiring decisions
If a department with a long track record of institutional pathology, including a siege mentality culture, behaves like this, then it isn't addressing its deep failings it is making them worse. I hope whoever takes charge there under the next PM ditches this approach immediately.
