I kinda wonder if the rise of podcasts is just a symptom of our mental health crisis and the prevalance of loneliness.
Hear me out...
Podcasts replicate the soothing feeling of talking with a close friend -- relationships many find frey with time -- without the pesky chore of actually having to help or be there for them. They give relief from loneliness even when we're exhausted...so perfect for commutes!
Podcasts also let us hear voices in our head without being "crazy". Talk radio has been popular for decades with conservatives that tend to be more homogeneous so broadcast radio works. Now heterogenous liberals are tuning into podcasts because they can sort into their niches.

-Video chat can 4X usage & 2X retention for games
-Streaming is evolving from Twitch to narrowcasting to friends & live synchronous play
-Gamers need their own social networks or non-gamers get annoyed like Zynga+Fb
Video chat massively ups risk of abuse in games, including bullying of ‘default’ users who haven’t bought/earned fancy skins. Developers should look to safety-as-a-service providers like @TwoHatHQ & @AntiToxinTech
The social+gaming industry loves the validation of Epic/Fortnite acquiring Houseparty, even if it wasn’t a big financial win. It’ll make it easy to squad up before play. Thx to our panelists & attendees!

HOW TO IDEA: a thread on where my ideas come from, answering that ubiquitous & dreaded question

I am not a creative person. I don’t really do ideas ex nihilo. I’ve said a thousand times that I can’t just make things up.

So here is how I work.
I see it as a process of inputs & outputs.

I consume media and through the tea strainer of my brain, some of it settles there and ferments into something different.

It's like breathing in & out.

But there must be inputs & they should ideally be varied & obscure.
INTERESTING FACTOIDS

Conveniently, the real world is far more interesting and weird than my own imagination can ever be.

The internet, ever keen to provide amusing little distractions, is replete with sites that aggregate such brain candy.

2. ive experimented meticulously with various doses of MDMA, LSD, psilocybin (magic mushrooms) and ayahuasca in different contexts: conference calls, weddings, birthday parties, and tech conferences. Ive found them to be extraordinarily informative.
3. im not a big fan of ‘micro-dosing”, which is usually about 1/10th of a conventional dose. I do something i like to call “social dosing”, which is about 1/3rd. its enough to learn from the experience, but not overwhelming

With Blockchain being the new trend, taking a look at what could be a trend in the future. Though slowly gaining traction, sooner or later, it could be a part of our live, much like some of the recent tech advances. And this would be one of the growth areas for IT ahead.
In very simple terms, concept of block chain, is a list of records, called blocks, that are linked to each other using a cryptographic hash key of previous block. What this means is each record is linked to the other digitally, and it's just not possible to alter randomly.
While the blockchain is a decentralized mechanism for storing data, the cryptographic hash linkage between one block and another managed by a peer to peer network means you can't modify the data in one block, without altering in other blocks, making it much more safer.
