Kacsmaryk's nomination has been kicking around for close to two years — he was first nominated in September 2017. It's never been totally clear why it took this long, since there weren't rumbles of oppo on the right like there were for some nominees
Republicans generally have said that b/c Democrats were invoking what procedures they had left to try to slow down confirmation of nominees, McConnell had to focus on circuit court nominees, so people like Kacsmaryk just got bumped down the list
But there have been plenty of district court nominees nominated after Kacsmaryk who made it through. If you know anything about what happened with this particular nomination, I'm all ears
Kacsmaryk's nomination is also vigorously opposed by Democrats, LGBT rights groups, and other orgs on the left. Today, this letter went out signed by 75 groups slamming Kacsmaryk as "an anti-LGBT activist": assets.documentcloud.org/documents/6152…
