Realising that I've gone from being interested in designing things to being interested in designing the conditions for teams that make things. Not quite sure how I feel about this yet!
A follow-up on this...I've spent the last few years leading designers and researchers but that's not quite what I meant by this (poorly worded!) tweet.
More like...I tried to improve the things we were making by focusing on the research and design part of a multidisciplinary team, but if the whole team wasn't set up to work together effectively this was often frustrating.
And so over time I've drifted into being more interested in finding better ways to set up those multidisciplinary teams to work effectively together, rather than just the research and design bits.
This is why I moved to be a product manager because, from observing teams, that felt like the role that had the most impact on how multidisciplinary teams work together. I'm still working out if this is true :)
The reason I don't know how I feel about this is because...honestly...it's weird leaving behind an identity that I've sat in for years. My framing has changed and it's been a bit unsettling. Also, there's a whole bunch of things I don't know how to think about yet, let alone do!
It's kind of fun working it out tho...
