A final word on the Kool-Aid mystery from earlier.
First of all Kool-Aid was referred to in a book by Ken kesey about the sixties hippy counter-culture

AND . . .
A different fruit juice was later used at Jonestown where several hundred people used it with poison to committed suicide in a religious or psychotic rapture.
And what seems to have happened is that those two events sort of crossed over with each other, and the hippy counter-culty resonance of Kool-Aid was then transferred onto Jonestown where a different brand of drink had been used.

Thanks for clearing that up.
So those who thought "drink the Kool-Aid" came from the Ken Kesey book, and those who said it came from Jonestown, you were both right. It arose from the one and then morphed into the other.

Brecon and Radnor recall petition results tomorrow afternoon.

If 5,600 people have signed the petition, then the sitting MP (Conservative) loses his seat, and a new by election is called.
Tories currently have 313 seats. They might be about to lose another if tomorrow's recall petition succeeds.
That would put the Tories and the DUP together on 322, with the opposition 319

Now a vote of no confidence is looking winnable
Because there are at least two Tories that we know of who would vote to bring down the government before allowing a no deal Brexit. And if tomorrow's recall petition goes through, two is all it would take.

Why Boris Johnson is the best Tory leader for remainers.

Because Theresa May's deal is dead. And the best way of making it stay dead is by electing the person who killed it.
What's left is a choice of three. No deal, New deal or no Brexit.
But Europe has no Commission until November 1st, which is why our extension expires on October 31st.
A new deal is out because there's no one to negotiate it with.
Finally, no matter how you don't want to see it because you don't like me being right, you're left with the two choices I said you would face in the end.
No deal. No Brexit.

You go your way, I'll go mine. This is what's going to happen:
We suppose Boris Johnson wins the Tory leadership.
The best he can hope for is a majority of 4, although by then it might be 3.
And that's with the DUP
Parliament has already shown willing to legislate in spite of government.
A prime minister with no majority, who has neither won nor even fought a general election, will not be allowed to execute such a drastic policy.
It would only need two Tory MPs - and you can even name the two - and the government would fall.
And what you also know is that this is the only job Boris Johnson ever wanted. he doesn't want to go down to a vote of no confidence before he's even unpacked his socks.

1/ Recently finished Menon’s translation of Bhagavad Gita, the holy #book of Hindus. There’s a lot to like about it, but it leaves a few issues unresolved.

Here are my notes on Gita.
2/ The story revolves around the warrior Arjuna who faces conflict during a war with his cousins.

He simply cannot bring himself to kill the people he grew up with. So he tells his charioteer, Krishna, that he’d rather die than go to war.
3/ This conflict is used as a backdrop by Krishna, who actually is an incarnation of God, to reveal the truth of the world to Arjuna.

The ideas and concepts in Gita are consistent with other Hindu philosophies and ideas

@Black_Pilled I've watched most of your last video. Technically, I'm a "boomer" - born in 12/63. IMHO, you're overgeneralizing "boomers" and neglecting the forces in the culture at the time of the late 60s and 70s.

There was a comprehensive plan by the leftists to destroy the
American culture, families and traditions. They attacked on several fronts:
1. War in Vietnam - to weaken and divide us
2. 60,000 dead and many more wounded demoralized the nation
3. Communist radicals inside the hippy counter-culture.
4. Madison Ave. propaganda
5. Music & film
This was combined with the frequent relocations of families due to the industrialization after WW2 that Alvin Toffler describes fully in "Future Shock."

(I was in 4 different High Schools.)

Divorce was normalized in films as part of "Women's Liberation."

First exit polls in Sweden bring mixed news.

(Brief thread.)
The result for the Social Democrats is much better than might have been feared. They recovered in the last stretch of the campaign and took a clear first place.
This leaves the Sweden Democrats in second place.

Since they looked like they might win a month ago, I suppose that's good news?

But a party that was founded by neo-Nazis came in second in one of the richest countries in Europe. It's hard to feel too good about that.

Warning: this thread is going to be huge.
2/ Human systems are systems within systems, interacting in complex ways. No article / paper / logic can capture all interactions of such systems and their evolution over a non-trivial amount of time.

So fear one shot, large scale interventions (such as invasions, UBI, CRISPR)
