This will be part of an ongoing series #ExposingLeeZeldin revealing the pablum, misdirection & false narratives that @RepLeeZeldin @leezeldin sends in response to constituent inquiries.

Our first letter is about securing our elections from foreign influence.
We will skip the first paragraph, though from a precision standpoint constituents contacted the Congressman’s office, not him personally.

Graph 2 is slice of unremittingly vague verbiage devoid of proper citation or source for the “facts” being presented.
In other words, “DHS told me they are doing a bunch of work to fix the problem and I accept what they have said.”

The IIS - AC sounds great except if the group is only scanning 32 states that leaves 32% of the states unprotected.

That cannot be good.
Nowhere in Graph 2 is it mentioned that:

-DHS is in a state of disarray after Donald John Trump’s purge of the agency in April

-Former Secy Nielsen was told to stop focusing on election security

-Mitch McConnell has systematically blocked elex security legislation

We will let y’all digest that. Plenty of homework before we move onto the next Graph of #ExposingLeeZeldin

Welcome back friends!

You also @RepLeeZeldin @leezeldin!

Graph 3 time!

Here goes:
This is a less than masterful bait & switch with the letter’s author attempting to divert attention from Russian election interference (which is related to the constituent’s inquiry) with Russia’s global military adventurism (which is NOT related to the inquiry.)
There is little doubt that restricting Russia’s territorial aspirations is a topic worthy of discussion.

If want to get your Russian military adventurism wonk on, have a couple reads. Dense wonky reading. So good!
Interestingly, @RepLeeZeldin @leezeldin has voted in favor of sanctioning Russia over its election interference & has hit the right notes rhetorically about dealing w/ the threat.

Something is preventing him from taking credit for & touting a defensible, common sense position.
So why the diversion and the “Vladimir the Great wants to get the band back together” silliness?

Your thoughts gentle readers?
Onward to Graph 4:
@RepLeeZeldin @leezeldin must be REALLY concerned about protecting the integrity of our elections he co-sponsored legislation to provide funding to state and local governments to strengthen cyber security for their elections.

Ooolala!

Except...
1. The bill was introduced in September 2017, 21 months ago and...
2. It literally went NOWHERE, no vote, not even in committee let alone the House:
3. @leezeldin @RepLeeZeldin and his fellow @GOP co-sponsors thought so much of this bill they could not be bothered to even issue a statement of support for it.

@RepMikeQuigley was the only legislator who made a statement about HR 3751:

quigley.house.gov/media-center/p…
4. The little bill that couldn’t:
5. What happens to a bill that does not advance to a vote?

It is cleared from the books.

HR 3751 we hardly knew ye! 😢
Recap of Graph 4?

- @leezeldin @RepLeeZeldin demonstrates his commitment to cyber security by citing a dead bill he co-sponsored

- he lifted finger zero to advance the bill

- he offers no other instances of his commitment to cyber security in the LAST 2 YEARS!
Further, his vote against HR1 in March, which has a cyber security component, further demonstrates that @RepLeeZeldin @leezeldin is not actually committed to election security at all.

We judge by votes here in #NY01, not word salad nonsense & misdirection.

We see you.
Thank you for continuing to read along!

Parsing @leezeldin @RepLeeZeldin word salad is like trying to shovel the beach back into the ocean, but we are in the home stretch friendlies!

Graph 5:
- The relationship between election security & sitting on the Foreign Affairs committee is tangential at best, but OK,

- Supporting efforts to increase election transparency = I will not DO anything, BUT if someone does the heavy lifting I MIGHT sign on or vote for it,
Less than 10% of the money in the appropriation mentioned by the Congressman the has been spent (see below from the EAC annual report) & we do not recall him facilitating bringing any of that funding to #NY01 or NYS for that matter.

Surely if there was credit to be taken...
The Congressman’s view of a fair election system is widely divergent from @GOP practice across multiple jurisdictions and the country at large.

They talk the talk, but they walk the walk of election fraud, gerrymandering & voter disenfranchisement.

A few of their latest hits:
And here we are at the end of our journey friends:
Just the standard “thank you for contacting my office,” blah blah blah right?

Sure, but the truth of the matter, @RepLeeZeldin @leezeldin does not REALLY want to hear from ALL of his constituents. Let us review the barriers he has placed to direct participation in our democracy:
1. @RepLeeZeldin @leezeldin has not held a Town Hall since April, 2017

2. He calls direct participation in our democracy “counterproductive,”

3. To compensate for this failure, he tried Telephone Town Halls via Facebook. Not democratic, he selects the questions to be answered,
4. He holds #LunchWithLee events where constituent attendance is curated by his office & the @GOP establishment in the town holding the event. None of these events are announced to members of the local press so that the community might receive non-partisan reportage on the event,
5. During the last election he canceled numerous events where attendance by supporters of his opponent was vastly outstripping the number of supporters he could persuade to attend,
6. Constituent calls to his offices have been met with rude and confrontational responses by senior staff, unreturned requests for responses and disconnections when asking about certain issues that are front and center in our politics,
7. @RepLeeZeldin @leezeldin sends letters exactly like this one on virtually every phone or email inquiry sent to his office.
Letters replete with:

- commitments to constituents in opposition to his actions & voting record,

- demonstration of his lack of action on issues & misdirection to cover the lack of action,

- his lack of leadership & presence in Congress to drive legislation to help #NY01.
This has been the first installment of #ExposingLeeZeldin.

Please RT, ❤️& share widely to spread the word.

Also, we have several voter education initiatives planned for the ‘19 local & ‘20 general elex & every penny helps bring those plans to fruition:

Episode 1 of #ExposingLeeZeldin is now complete.

We hope our local press will start to question @RepLeeZeldin about his voting record.
