There is a limited number of things the new prime minister can do - even Boris Johnson.

New deal - There's no one to negotiate with

No deal - Parliament will block it

May's deal - No. Not after he voted it down

No Brexit - is what's going to happen because nothing else can

He could TRY no deal. He could, but I promise he won't.
You can't just leave right now by royal command or something. Even with "no deal" we still can't leave until November.
And his government - MINORITY government - would not survive that long.

It's political fact. parliament has already legislated against one government, it would easily do so again, and especially a prime minister that had never been tested at a general election

So that leaves new deal, May's deal or no Brexit.
Europe says no new deal, and he just brought Theresa May's down to stop her deal. he would never get away with it. No with parliament, his party or the country.

So that leaves no Brexit.

So it's going to be No Brexit. And I don't care who tells me otherwise, how loud or how often, logic dictates - by which I mean my logic, not their logic - logic dictates that the only answer is no Brexit.

And like you said, Boris Johnson is going to get the job on the basis of a policy which is doomed to fail.
And like you also said, that is a resignation, especially since he made Theresa May resign for exactly the same thing.

Johnson doesn't want to resign already. The job he's always wanted, he doesn't want to resign in the first couple of weeks.

Johnson wins the leadership, his declared policy immediately fails, and if he doesn't want to resign there is only one place he can hide - a general election.
And that's why we're about to get a general election.
