Rachel Maddow JUST NOW made a point of the important shit we got from Hope Hicks yesterday.

There are lots of memes going around about how Dems are wimps for not putting Hicks in jail today for refusing to give them anything.

We got A LOT.

We found out, for instance, that Trump and the Trump Campaign learned about the hooker pee tape THE DAY AFTER the Access Hollywood tape was released in Oct 2016, and has been trying to cover it up since then.

The Judiciary Committee also got Hicks on the record of refusing to answer a bunch of SPECIFIC QUESTIONS which she does NOT have the legal right to refuse to answer. Nadler will now bring that to federal court and get her FORCED to answer.

@BryanDawsonUSA Good question. Why is Congress using courts instead of jumping right to Inherent Contempt, which would let them jail or fine people directly? Several reasons,

1/
@BryanDawsonUSA 1. Going straight to Inherent Contempt would be surrendering the court system to the Trump Reich. That's a bad precedent. (more on that below.)

2/
@BryanDawsonUSA 2. If and when any part of this gets into the courts, Congress wants to be able to show a pattern of having done things in the way a court would view as the right way. That weighs in Congress' favor.

I'm seeing enormous amounts of "Kamala is a cop!" nonsense.

First, no, she wasn't a cop. She was a prosecutor. Know the difference. Saying "Kamala is a cop!" makes you look like a moron.

Second, yeah she was a prosecutor. That's a noble profession. No one like criminals except other criminals.

So complaining that Kamala effectively made America safer makes you look like a criminal moron.

Which means we NEED a good prosecutor.

I'm getting really tired of the growing false whine that Dems are "scared" of impeachment, and that they should "begin" something called "impeachment hearings".

Serious question: how do "impeachment hearings" differ from the dozen or so investigations House Dems are doing?
People whine about Pelosi saying "impeachment is off the table". That's only half of what she said. It's "off the table" *until there is sufficient evidence".

The purpose of the investigations is to establish exactly that evidence.

Investigations are the necessary precursor.
It is not at all clear what people want House Demos to do that they're not doing.

They are conducting "impeachment hearings". They're just not calling them that.

Why not call them that? Because this way, they rob GOPers (and the media) of a powerful talking point.

Trump’s rant at WH meeting today even made Bill Shine—disgraced FoxNews exec now head White House PR guy—squirm. He couldn’t sit still, as Trump rattled off his usual ignorant propaganda talking points and self-praise.
“What’s he done for me?”—Trump on Mattis, says he fired him because “I want results.” This rant at WH cabinet meeting is just incredible. It’s like he’s on speed. He just can’t shut up🤐. TV cameras should pan out—to capture the reaction of people in room.
How dumb is Trump? Really really REALLY dumb: "The reason Russia went into Afghanistan was because terrorists were going into Russia. They were right to be there. That's why there's no Soviet Union."

It's a miracle we've survived 2 years of this. Not sure about the next two.
