An admission.
When I first saw @BorisJohnson over 20 years ago, I thought he was ‘a good chap’. I was taken in by his jolly, rugger-bugger persona, I thought his use of Latin was a charming ostentatiousness and his philandering made him one of the lads.
How wrong I was.
There is nothing remotely charming about this man. Everything he says and does is calculated to advance his position, to reinforce his brand values and to bring him the ultimate prize... leadership of the country. He studies Churchill to learn about ‘statesmanship’ but...
...the only thing he has taken on board is Churchill’s sense of superiority, his belief that the end justifies the means and that being born into privilege permits one to behave abominably, to lie and to cheat, and then to describe it as high jinks.
He will undoubtedly become PM. I’ve heard many times that people feel he can unite the country, but the truth is that the Tories see him as their only chance to defeat Corbyn; a petty, spineless man who has concentrated on minutiae so as to avoid confronting the real problems.
#Brexit is a debacle of Johnson’s making. It is a comic drama using buffoonery and horseplay and includes crude characterisation and ludicrously improbable situations...a farce which will not have a happy ending for the people of the UK.
We will leave the EU on 31st October...
...without a deal. Through ineptitude, self-deceit, hubris and mendacity we will become the first country in modern history to douse itself in petrol and then to light the match to gain benefits we already had and those which are, to all intents and purposes, irrelevant.
Taking some flack from the usual social justice warriors for admitting to a bit of youthful naivety. I’m older and wiser now, but if you feel it advances your cause in any way please feel free to criticise, I won’t be a judgmental as you clearly are...
