2Cor1 this AM. “The Father of mercies & the God of all comfort. He comforts us in all our affliction so that we may be able to comfort [others] through the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” Nothing compares to divine comfort but we cannot pass on what we would not receive.
I think of the haunting words in Jer 31:15. “Rachel...refusing to be comforted for her children because they are no more.” The prophetic poetry then quotes the Lord telling her He will restore them & there’s hope for her future. Paul shares in 2Cor1 that he despaired of life. ->
None of us who’ve ever been there ever want to go there again BUT we can also testify, if we received it, that there is literally nothing in the human experience that compares to God’s comfort. His nearness. His favor. Affection. The fellowshipping with Christ in His sufferings.
I don’t know exactly who I’m talking to this AM but someone who thinks you’ve lost your faith because of how angry you are at God. I want to say to you that, on the contrary, your offense evidences your faith. You’re mad because you know He’s all powerful, present & could’ve...
intervened. What you are enduring is so painful but, Loved of God, you are not faithless. You have to believe in order to know that He is sovereign & in ultimate control. There’s so much we don’t understand and won’t until we’re face to face with Jesus & know as we’ve been known.
This we know from 2Cor1. Some of what we endure will be for the sake of others. They matter so much. We can only pass on to them the comfort they long for if we ourselves have been comforted by God. Let Him comfort you. Also receive His comfort through others. Your God IS good.
He cannot be otherwise. In Him is no evil. “Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death, so that we would not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead. He has delivered us...He will deliver us. We have put our hope in Him that He will deliver us again.”
Your heart is broken. Psalm 34:18 says God is close to the broken-hearted. Right there. Right now. Say it to Him. Say what you need to say. He knows anyway. Pour it out. He will hold you. And He will - slowly perhaps but surely - bring you back to life. One day we’ll understand.
