Having read the script myself... yeah, this was a major problem. As a script, it was OKAY at best. The horror scenes were actually really decently scary as described, the message was okay, there were a few bits where I laughed...
...but it was, like so many of the other anniversaries, the Doug Show. There is a time in it where the NC is out of action... but then he's just replaced by another of Doug's characters and the NC comes in and saves the day. HIS characters make lots of cameos. No references...
...to anyone else's work outside of his own. Hell, he could honestly retool this to JUST feature his own cast of characters and actors and it'd be the same. And that's not even getting into the fact that for it being the 10th anniversary movie (the ONLY reason they were...
...doing another anniversary movie at all), it was just. Another. Anniversary. Movie.

There was no celebration of the site being ten years old, nothing about the NC's long journey - for all the problems To Boldly Flee had, the fact that it included bits of continuity and...
...references to things happening in other people's videos or even just the idea of it being the end of an era made IT a better 10th anniversary than this one is. The only reference to it being related to 10th anniversary was the recurring not-funny meta-joke of "Oh, we're...
...here to film a 10th anniversary movie!" to explain the presence of the other producers. I actually pitched a 10th anniversary movie to them (rejected like all the others) and I'd love to detail what it was, but honestly I'm so happy with the idea I might just use it for...
...myself and leave it at that. For the Voice From the Dark DVD, I think I will explain my pitch I had for the 5th anniversary film because all the ideas I had for that I ended up reusing in my own show or Voice From the Dark (never abandon ideas, kids), but it baffles...
...me to this day how uninterested they are in CELEBRATING THEMSELVES. I know the continual joke about the anniversaries is that Doug has this massive ego, but honestly it feels like there should be MORE celebration of their major milestones and achievements if that was the...
...case, big spectacles out of big anniversary episodes or hundredth episodes. The Nostalgia Critic review celebrating his 10th anniversary? Norm of the North, and it's indistinct from any of his other videos.

I hate to keep tooting my own horn here, but for my 10th...
...anniversary I made a story that left the audience to wonder if a lot of that time had been a lie, brought back old villains from the show's history, tried to experiment with new lighting and makeup, made an extra long re-review of my first episode, and for the entire year...
in the buildup to it went back to revisit series and books I had done over the last decade to see how much I had grown and changed in my opinions and style.

And again, that's what's so shocking about this supposed 10th anniversary movie script I read: it was just... another one.
...If it had been done in CA's hayday, I have little doubt people would love it. People would still have LIKED it just fine if the big fallout hadn't happened, but if they were going to hype this as a the big 10th anniversary celebration, people would have been severely...
...disappointed. And especially the case that, yet again, nobody is written as anything but generic characters without any regard to WHO THESE PEOPLE ARE THAT YOU SHARE A WEBSITE WITH.

And sorry again to toot my own horn here, but do you know what I did when I was writing...
...A Voice From the Dark and had people whose work I was unfamiliar with? I ASKED THEM HOW THEY WANTED TO BE PORTRAYED AND I WATCHED SOME OF THEIR VIDEOS. And when I gave them the script, I asked them "If you feel like there's something you would say/add, please tell me and...
...I'll change it to accommodate you."

If you didn't care about who we were, our presence on the site, or the fact that we have our own unique videos and presentations and talents... why did you even bother bringing any of us on to begin with? Why even HAVE this movie with...
...other producers? It's mind-boggling. I don't understand it and I don't think I ever will.

Also there was a scene where the characters were supposed to be talking to each other in movie quotes for very stupid and confusing reasons. Because I guess Doug loved Ready Player One.
At least that's what I'd assume from that scene and it was stupid.

I was offered to be in it back when we were filming some other stuff (Brad Jones' Disco, I think?) and I said that I was honored, but I wasn't interested because I wanted other producers to be given a chance...
...to be in it (I recall specifically saying to bring @Diamandahagan into it) but if I had still been given the script back then to be in it I probably would have written a long document to Doug explaining why the scene was stupid and made no sense.
Point is, I think at this point I can say: while I still overall like Kickassia, Suburban Knights, and To Boldly Flee despite their NUMEROUS flaws, I made a better friggin' anniversary movie than them and I would have been happy to have MADE better ones FOR them if they had...
...just let me. But I wasn't "in-house" according to them, and they wanted to keep it "in-house."

Because I guess we weren't all part of the same house.
