OK, just one comment on Robert Mueller's report. The whole thing needs to be made public, and as soon as possible. Short thread.
2. A Russian intelligence operation to influence an American Presidential election, and secure a potentially compromised American President, is a grave matter. There are Americans willing to accept such a thing, it is true. One of them is the President himself.
3. Another may be the Attorney General. The rules pertaining to establishment of the Special Counsel's Office called on Attorney General Barr to send a summary of Mueller's report to Congress, and he has done so. We have his word that he summarized Mueller's evidence fairly...
4... and drew correct legal conclusions from it. But the word of a Trump appointee on a matter of this importance, one that affects Trump directly, is not good enough.
5. Moreover, the Trump Standard -- no indictment, no problem -- is not the appropriate standard to apply to a counterintelligence investigation. The American people are entitled to know whether their President is compromised, and a four-page letter can't tell them that.
6. I expect resistance, from the Trump administration and Trump's devoted admirers among Congressional Republicans, to releasing Mueller's report and evidence on which it is based. Not having read the report myself, I can't say how intense that resistance will be.
7. In any event, it is resistance that must be overcome. There are some Americans content to have a President above the law, as they are content to have a President compromised by foreign governments, using his office to enrich himself, & ordering subordinates to commit crimes.
8. These Americans have a right to their opinions, but cannot be permitted to suppress a report on a two-year-long investigation, one that is absolutely necessary for Congress to evaluate what further steps are required. [end]
Addendum to this thread: @qjurecic expands on the implications of Mueller’s report being as yet unread in somewhat greater detail.
