I have so many thoughts on why this is bad, antiquated political advice politico.com/story/2019/06/…
1. The fact that the Democratic policy agenda has not broken through is not a surprise. There is no history of an opposition party agenda in divided government breaking through to voters. This is especially true in the Trump media age when the shelf-life of a near-war in 72 hours
2. There is no earned media strategy that will accomplish that goal. It requires sustained digital advertising targeted to a core group of voters.
3. The idea that members in swing districts can tune out the national conversation around Trump's misdeeds and focus exclusively on health care is based on antiquated view of the media ecosystem.
4. In the past, voters got all their info from local media and you could run a district by district campaign. In the age of social media, even less engaged are consistently exposed to information about what is happening across the country. All elections are now national elections
5. Therefore, everyone is going to rise or fall together. Democrats triangulating against the party on impeachment will affect turnout in other districts with pro-impeachment members and vice versa.
6. The impeachment conversation is going to continue. Trump is not going to stop being unfit or corrupt. He will keep doing crimes. You can't avoid the conversation. The only question is whether you are going to approach it from a position of strength or weakness.
