An excellent team of CNN reporters will be live-fact-checking the first Democratic debate tonight. You can follow their work here: cnn.com/politics/live-…. I'll be on @AC360 after the debate to do some more checks.
The candidates have been quite accurate in their assertions of fact so far. (There's lots of subjective, uncheckable political rhetoric, of course, but the facts/figures/anecdotes have mostly been correct or close.)
That was a very factual debate. The most objectively incorrect claim, on first listen: Rep. Tim Ryan saying the top 1% controls 90% of the wealth. It's around 40%.
Ryan might have mixed up his 90s and 1s. Warren frequently says that the top 0.1% own as much wealth as the bottom 90%, which is true by some economists' measures.
