After a long hiatus, Trump has returned to his story about women being trafficked in the "back of a van" through unwalled border. Experts told me they haven't encountered stories like Trump's. Victims are more often deceived into coming willingly, or coerced, than kidnapped.
Asked about his tweet repeating Peter Thiel's accusation against Google, Trump said, "He's one of the top -- maybe the top -- expert on all of those things."
Trump repeated his baseless conspiracy theory about the government of Guatemala and Honduras deliberately putting their hardened criminals in migrant caravans to foist them upon the United States.

Omar says Trump is violating his oath to the Constitution "and the core values we aspire to." She says, "As Martin Luther King said: all we say to America is, be true to what you say on paper."
Omar is presenting Trump as the un-American one. She says he's using this "blatantly racist" attack, and adopting the "agenda of white nationalists," to distract from his corruption and personal and policy failings.
Omar concluded by calling for impeachment.

Trump falsely accused Ilhan Omar today of praising al Qaeda.

She never did.

He was referring to a 2013 clip circulating in conservative media. Even that clip doesn't include any praise.

The context in short: Omar said people find it easier to condemn the atrocities of non-state actors like al Qaeda or al-Shabaab than they do the crimes of their own governments. The PBS host mused about why Americans use these Arabic names rather than the less-scary English. 1/3
Omar argued that the media uses Arabic names out of a desire for sensationalism, to raise fears. She then laughed about how her professor in a college class on terrorism tensed when saying "al Qaeda" while not showing similar body language when saying "England" or "America." 2/3

This Day in Labor History: August 15, 1914. The Panama Canal is completed. Let's talk about the workers who built this and the incredibly, albeit typical for the era, racist system the United States installed to do so.
Much of the story about the Panama Canal is well-known, including how Theodore Roosevelt stole Panama from Colombia to create the Canal, a classic act of imperialism in two nations that would long feel the brunt of American interventionism. But what about the workers?
The first real transportation labor in what would become the Panama Canal took place in the 1850s, when Chinese and African laborers died by the thousands building railroads in the area that later became the Canal.

A lot of the Blavity and #blackexcellence crowd moved past Donald Glover’s past when he was getting writeups in prestige media and his show was winning major awards and he was helping with representation in nerd stuff like Star Wars, the most important causes to them
Now a week after these people were all mad at people getting mad at Issa Rae, now they see Glover have one of his best weeks ever and they’re suddenly trying to cancel him again. It seems like tit for tat. The problem is the disingenuous excuses they gave for Issa apply here too
