AUSTRALIA IS BECOMING A FASCIST COUNTRY.

In fact, we’re more than halfway there.

If you disagree, the following 14 Points of Fascism are a standard guide to the warning signs.

They are abridged, but the point is made, and please feel free to contribute your own examples.
1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism

Fascist regimes make constant use of slogans, symbols, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing (like stickpins).

"How good is Australia?" says the Slogan Bogan, eating a pie, drinking a beer.
2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights

With fabricated threats and fear-mongering, people are persuaded that human rights can be ignored, and accept the long incarcerations of prisoners, suspension of habeas corpus, etc.

Why are suicidal people denied medical treatment?
3. Identification of Scapegoats to Unite a Cause

The people are rallied into a unifying frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat: racial, ethnic or religious minorities; socialist lefties, terrorists, anyone 'different'.

Lost any so-called freedoms lately?
4. Supremacy of the Military

Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected.

A half-billion dollar War Memorial? Or cuts to health, education, services and welfare?
5. Rampant Sexism

The governments of fascist nations tend to be male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Opposition to abortion is high, as is homophobia and anti-gay legislation.

Any women or gays feeling isolated, abused or ignored?
6. Controlled Mass Media

Sometimes the media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation or sympathetic media executives. Censorship of journalism is very common.

Paying any tax on propaganda, Rupert?
7. Obsession with National Security

Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government.

Whistle-blowers imprisoned, journalists' offices raided and computers seized, citizens deported, unarmed asylum seekers deemed a huge threat.

Would the Spud indulge in fear-mongering?
8. Religion and Government are Intertwined

Governments in fascist nations use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious terminology - burn for you - is common from leaders. And Beliefs are placed above Rights.

No comment necessary.
9. Corporate Power is Protected

The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation help put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.

Why block a Royal Commission into banks? Or a Federal ICAC?
10. Labour Power is Suppressed

Because the organising power of labour is the only real threat to a fascist government, labour unions are either eliminated entirely or are severely suppressed.

Setka is abusive, but why suggest deregistering the entire CFMEU because of one man?
11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts

Fascists tend to promote an open hostility to higher education and science. It is common for academics to be censored. Free expression in the arts is openly attacked and governments refuse any funding.

We don’t need no . . . education?
12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment

Authorities have almost limitless powers. People are often willing to overlook police abuses and forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. A federal police force has virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.

Dutton’s fantasy?
13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption

Fascist regimes are governed by groups and associates who appoint each other to positions and use governmental power to protect their friends from accountability.

Wanna buy some free water? Maybe an untendered half billion to save the Reef?
14. Fraudulent Elections

Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against opposition candidates and manipulation of the media.

Labor may have lost, but did the Liberals actually win democratically?
Facebook is also complicit when they allow propaganda to be presented as truth.

And because I support factual contradiction, I will include a rebuttal of certain points.

Just don't believe everything you read, especially under Fascism.
