She introduced herself as Twitter and asked if she could join me.
Not wishing to appear rude, I said sure.
Conversation not being my forte, I asked her about work.
She smiled and said come outside and I'll show you what I do for a living.
Curious more than interested, I Followed.
I looked up but saw nothing, nor did her words make sense.
A third person joined us, looked upwards and asked what we saw.
I said, "I have no idea," but still we searched the empty sky.
A crowd soon gathered, all staring at a vacant sky, wondering at the sight.
People began to see what they wanted and desiring inclusion, saw things that didn't exist as the chorus of voices rose in anger.
When the first punch was thrown I stepped back and gazed from an outsider's vantage. The congenial, inquisitive collective had been replaced by an angry mob of individuals all bent on being the most offended.
She took my hand and said let's go back inside, they're happy now.
When we were seated once again, she laughed and said, "See? That's what I do. Absolutely nothing, and they love me for it."
"Especially when they fight," she said, and marveled at my benign ignorance.
