Gotta wonder how many of these media people and people representing campaigns roasting @JoeBiden for his busing legislation in the 70s send their kids to public schools. There's a reason America's schools have not desegregated & its not just bc of conservatives in the suburbs.

And that at schools like the one my sons attend, white flight into the private/charter universe to avoid efforts to desegregate the schools and deal with the massive inequities in resources our STUPID system of school funding caused

But it is all rational choice behavior of parents- there is no way to coerce parents of upper-middle class students (of all races, mind you) to keep their kids into schools they see as scary bc poor kids attend them. Here is the school report parents see for our elementary school

And here is the school report for Newport News Virginia where I live. Everyone wants to get their kid into Hilton & Deer Park (pure lottery based) but come middle school they all head to Gildersleeve Middle: w its score of 3 on Great Schools. greatschools.org/search/search.…

Bc the schools are so "bad" in Newport News people w children and $ move to Williamsburg or York Counties; year after year this reinforces the resource curse afflicting NN schools. My elementary school is the school to which children in the poorest section of NN are bused. I am

proud to send my kid to this school, & of the amazing staff & teachers that make this school a happy place for all the kids that attend it, but most esp for kids that may not have great home lives. But, most of the parents of means in my neighborhood send their kids elsewhere
