How much does early parental care/education (0 to 5 years) contribute to adult IQ, and general aptitude?

Under-discussed topic

Tom Sowell points to a study where first borns fare better in academics than later children

Also twins have a lower IQ than kids born singly
If this is indeed true, it further emphasizes the importance of two-parent families

Sticking together "for the sake of the children" does make sense

Also it is an argument for one spouse focusing more on the kids and the house as opposed to leaving childcare to nannies/daycare
The nature vs nurture arguments today don't touch on this enough because the implications may be politically inconvenient esp to progressives

The advocates of genetic determinism downplay nurture altogether

The other side talks up nurture, but not early child care specifically
Nurture may not be that useful beyond the age of 10

However its impact may be v v great in the first 4-5 years
The implication ofcourse is -

Greater parental involvement in the early years
Women taking a break from work etc

Things that we don't want to discuss

Because it has a "reactionary" feel to it
