Yesterday was immensely powerful, but people may also be wondering how it fits in what comes next. The first step is this call 👇.

But I also want to offer one explanation for steps 2 through X on why direct action like this is necessary.... (a thread)
Right now:
1⃣ Well-meaning observers can be shocked by concentration camps but not affected by them
2⃣ Ambivalent/sympathetic agents of the state can be swayable--but not w/o confrontation over their role
3⃣ Sympathetic politicians can pay lip service w/o taking any real action
Physical, unavoidable action targets all three in important ways that other types of action (media, rallies, etc.) do not. All of those can be avoided by those that don't want to look at them.
For problem 1⃣, direct action nationally models for sympathetic observers that *action is possible.* They can have a role in ending concentration camps. Locally, it also physically demands attention (such as blocked traffic) from ambivalent/disconnected neighbors of an atrocity.
For problem 2⃣, actions that impose a moral confrontation on agents of the state--making it hard for ICE guards to enter work, e.g--is necessary to undermine the internal support for policy. That *could* lead to defection and actions that are ruinous for public view of the policy
For problem 3⃣, brave physical action both demonstrates to some politicians that their public will act on an issue (and to remove them) as well as shames them for their own inaction. It's not a rally they can speak at. They have to choose between the front line or complicity.
This ^ is part of why this stuff matters! It doesn't matter if you've never done it before. It's not for experts. It's for everyone. And with enough people, these atrocities will stop.
