My observations: hongkongers, or at least friends of my age, are more tolerant and understandable regarding the protesters’ actions to storm the legco tonight. They don’t agree with it, they may find it unwise, but they respect their choice /1
.. as protesters already exhausted every means - peaceful march, sit-ins - over the past weeks but heard nothing from the govt. Carrie Lam only made her first public appearance in 2 weeks today at the handover anni reception & turned down request for a dialogue with pandems /2
The protesters knew it clearly what the legal consequences are to storm in legco - up to 10 years in jail for rioting. Police had already arrested several people for rioting on #612protest. “They knew it, and they still did it - who am I to judge?” /3
Pandems tried to persuade proesters not to storm earlier but many of them are ready for sacrifices regardless of the consequences. They blamed themselves for doing not enough, which has resulted in 3 suicide cases appear to be related to the saga lately. It’s sad & alarming /4
On the day of the 22nd anniversary of the handover, my heart breaks - as a Hker who grows up here, as a journalist, as a mom who gave birth 8m ago. Tears rolled down on my taxi ride home. Is there a solution to end all these? I truly dunno. It’s going to be a sleepless nite /5
