I’m guessing that Chris Grayling doesn’t have long in his current post. If he wants to secure a legacy beyond jokes about ferries & hopeless railway timetables, he could do a lot worse than cancel the #StonehengeTunnel NOW

Much of this has been done deliberately with false metrics that newsrooms desperate for funding fall for, because all the money has been siphoned off by higher-ups giving themselves raises and paying off victims of sexual harassment and abuse at the hands of the creeps they hire
Remember pivoting to video? Facebook just made those numbers up. Remember?
How many high-profile media men have been sunk by credible sexual harassment allegations in the past few years? How many more do we not know about yet? Paying off victims ain’t cheap.

2/ the other day i was excitedly informing a new friend of getting a MS accepted. i told them of the "diversity" in the novel, thinking they'd be excited to see the representation in an upcoming novel. the response surprised me.

"that's cool. who helped you?"
3/ i was taken aback. sure, i did my research, but no one /helped/ me. i did this writing by myself. i plotted by myself. i spent hours (many of them at my traumatizingly horrid job) editing, structuring, making notes, and re-reading.

how could they just assume i had help?

(1) I'm using a new term for those Twitter accounts posing as Trump supporters, that seek to engage, distract and divide Trump supporters online: Disinfo spreaders. It's a time honored strategy.
(2) When I use the term "time honored strategy" I'm saying the strategy has proven effective over a long period of time. It's one of my key messages in this thread: That our adversaries learned the lessons of history better than we have... until now.
(3) Here's where the Trump admin stands on Russia: In a nomination hearing, Pompeo cited Putin having said (words to the same effect) that in his opinion the worst thing from the 20th century was the break-up of the Soviet Union. Let me unpack this.

So I'm gonna own right off the bat that this isn't my original idea but something that I've seen brought up a lot of times in things like history TIL threads. With that out of the way, I do feel like brainstorming this a bit more.

First off, Spanish colonialism connected Western Europe to Africa (Northern African Moors and primarily Western African slaves) to the Americas (Gulf of Mexico, SW US down to Chile etc) to Asia (Marianas, Philippines and China). Other countries participated too but stay with me.
Their main goal was to connect Spain to the Spice Islands (Moluccas/Maluku) and convert people to Catholicism along the way. The papal bull Inter caetera issued in 1493 and Treaty of Tordesillas the next year "allowed" the division of the New World between Spain and Portugal.
