1. This is an amusing little story with a surprisingly important lesson. How did a presidential seal with a Russian-style eagle clutching a set of golf clubs end up on a screen behind the president? washingtonpost.com/politics/2019/…
2. Probably, some low-level person was rushed, and grabbed the art. I did a Google Image search for “presidential seal,” and the results are normal. But the parody seal is the right at the top of the results for “Trump Presidential Seal."
3. Trump has spent the past two years conflating the duties, powers, and prerogatives of the office he holds with his own personal interest. His speech at Turning Point was, per the White House, an official event—although its content was indistinguishable from campaigning.

To argue—like Speaker Pelosi—that one first needs to assemble all possible facts before proceeding, is to profoundly misunderstand the nature of impeachment. An impeachment inquiry is the constitutional mechanism for doing this work, not its outcome: theatlantic.com/magazine/archi…
2. Congress heard testimony today from Robert Mueller, confirming his report, that the president acted on multiple occasions to obstruct justice—although Mueller carefully did not state that as his conclusion. That’s supposed to be Congress’s role, not his theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/…
3. The House leadership is not disputing Mueller’s facts. It is not disputing the conclusion that here—and elsewhere—the president committed apparent crimes. But it refuses to launch the inquiry necessary to assemble the evidence, framing impeachment as an outcome, not a process.

Happy Independence Day! Remember that one of the "Intolerable Acts" used to justify independence was the Quebec Act, which was intolerable because it allowed religious freedom and some French civil law in Quebec, as the majority of its inhabitants wanted, and ...
... expanded the borders of Quebec south, because it was pretty clear that the Quebecois were less inclined to brutalize the indigenous peoples in the area, and British authorities preferred relatively more peaceful frontier relations.
Also of course worth remembering that the British inciting slave rebellions and coddling the native tribes were explicitly enumerated as reasons for independence.
