My Happy Uber Story: walking in mission just now, start to feel like some dude is following me. So I turn a corner (they turn too). Walk a ways and double back (they do too). Cross a street and turn again, same.

Peered hard to see if it was a friend pranking me; nope. Huh.
I call out "dude! quit following me" but he has headphones on and turns away. So I order an uber, despite being ~3 blocks from the office. Car arrives, and he GETS IN THE OTHER SIDE.

So I shut the door, changed the app destination to North Beach, and waved them off cheerily
Oh.. thanks for all the well wishes, but I didn't feel in danger. I think they were mentally ill. 😕 I was just annoyed, and thought it wisest not to walk straight up into the office without ditching him first. I had intended the car for *me*, though. ☺️

2) if it were possible, you would never pay to collect and store it all
3) even if you could pay, "logging" only solves the easy part. Now you get to solve "finding all the right bits of data, at the right time, in a timely manner". 🌷☺️
Here's an old blog post I wrote on some of the problems with logging and a logging mindset:

You may have noticed that honeycomb doesn't refer to "logs" or "logging" as a thing that we do.

Even though you could totally think of honeycomb events as structured logs, or stream your structured log into honeycomb just fine. So why not call it logging?

If your tool aggregates at write time and strips context, it is not a debugging tool because you can not answer specific questions.

At best, it may get you close enough that a few lucky guesses or intuitive leaps can land you on the right answer (or some part of it)
This role of sitting between devs and their code, interpreting low level systems graphs and translating them into the language of services and endpoints and what your code is /actually/ doing, has long been filled by your harried ops professional. Ops fingers in the o11y dikes.
Ops builds up enough scar tissue over time that we can make those intuitive leaps to almost *anything*, because we've seen everything.

Not gonna lie, it feels great to be a wizard. 🔮🧹🌚

I am late sharing this link, but I needed time to do it justice. 🌷

The piece is called "How Dark Deploys In 50ms", by my dear, brilliant friend @paulbiggar, the cofounder/CTO of @darklang who previously (this is important) cofounded @CircleCI.
You might already be side-eyeing the title, wondering why I am telling you to read such obvious product marketing clickbait for a product youve never heard of, complete with implausibly grandiose numbers that bring to mind the bad old days of "MongoDB is Web Scale!"
Or as @markcallaghan calls it, "benchmarketing". 🎀🎀🎀

It was a Fake Product to fool the Indians 😎
3. Proper ‘Desi Ghee ‘ was expensive & Lever Brothers, now Unilever (Hindustan Unilever in India), knew there was a market for a substitute for desi ghee, since many Indians could barely afford Ghee in those days 😨

The Christmas in Tornillo encampment should be getting more attention. A creative-arts focused encampment at the gates of a detention camp holding 3,000 children. People bringing giant puppets to the fences and writing messages on stray soccer balls they kick back over the fence.
The Christmas in Tornillo effort is led by brown women. They wanted to create something generative that was led by brown women after having to repeatedly tell white folks that they shouldn't thank DHS security for their service. (I'm not kidding.)

The Unstable Neighbour

I have always known ther eis something terribly wrong with my Neighbour but I couldn’t be bothered. She lives in the boys’ quarters and we live two floors above. The only thing that connects us is her right of way to the clothesline and drive way.
I may not be a clinical psychologist but I can spot a psychosomatic dilemma from a mile off. It is either that or she is a blithering idiot. The gaping hole in her heart can be felt as she finds reason to quarrel on the daily. In her cacophonous state you could hear her sing.
Songs of war. Lyrics adapted to suit her current concern. Loud enough to make you wanna ask if she is off her meds. But this was soon tolerated as an utterly and predictably normal situation in the yard. Until her combination of hubris and idiocy became lethal.
