It's v hard to keep up with all the terrible immigration news but it's imp you try to. One of the most vindictive policies Trump has implemented is called Migrant Protection Protocols.

Gerardo is a 41 y/old bricklayer from Guatemala. The MPP policy forcibly separated him from his son, Walter, for two months. When he appeared in court he asked the judge: “Can you help me get my son back?”

Gerardo was separated from Walter because they said he had faulty docs. Two months later they were reunited using the same docs declared fake at the border 3 months earlier.

There's now over 15,000 people suffering from this horrible policy.

We went with a team of 6 attorneys & legal assistants on Tuesday to the Carrizo Springs children's prison. We gave 170+ children a Know Your Rights presentation & 30 children a legal screening.

We will be there every wk to conduct legal services as long as Carrizo is open.
We know it's crazy to hear the idea that children get "Know Your Rights" legal trainings, but that's the reality. 1000s of children are forced to go to court ALONE.
On Carrizo: @HHSGov gov are legally bound to provide lawyers to minors. However they sent a directive against providing legal services there. Insane.

This disruption of government contracting for legal services left children at this facility without access to legal services.

There is a dramatic fall in the no. of refugees fleeing religious persecution who resettled in the US under Trump.

Eg. the number of Iranian Christians resettled in the United States so far in fiscal 2019 is 66, a 97 percent drop from the 2,086 resettled in fiscal 2016 - @theIRC
Canada, despite having one-tenth of our population, resettled more people than us last year — 28,000 in 2018.

We remember when @Benioff's billion dollar tech company last year offered us $250k to whitewash the work they were doing to help @CBP. We said no then because we saw Salesforce workers organizing against it and because it was the right thing to do.

Benioff told us: 'my people tell me CBP isn't as bad as ICE'. We told him he'd been misinformed.

Since then 7 children have died in CBP custody (before December 2018, no children had died in CBP custody in a decade) and the horrible conditions have been widely reported.

Today's hearing is broken into two panels. Up first will be four members of Congress themselves testifying about what they witnessed firsthand at the border on a recent trip: Representatives @AOC, @RepEscobar, @RashidaTlaib, and @AyannaPressley.
