Thank you Kenyans for raising this issue, but surely, calling on the government to do something is really part of our problem.

GoK only knows how to issue orders. How does telling schools to open at 8am help? Kids wake up at 5 to reach at 8. citizentv.co.ke/news/photo-of-…
Any time you want to talk about education, you must go beyond the schools. Because education is one of those things. It's a micro-cosm of society itself. You can't have functional schools in a dysfunctional society.

What are the issues?
As some of you celebrate taking the SGR in 4 hours to your beach property, remember that those billions could have been used to make a public transit system that would make people leave their cars at home. Without traffic, kids wouldn't need to be on the road 3 hours in advance.
We should talk about our working hours, which we started at #toxicworkspaces. There is no coherent reason why Kenyans should work 8 to 5, when tech is there. No human being can work 8 hours non stop, even with a lunch break. This insanity has to be revisited. 9 to 3 is decent.
9 to 3 would spread the hours of travel, since there is less fear of the dark. Parents would get home in good time to meet the kids at home. Then you can stop that self-righteous and hypocritical whining about parents not having time for their kids.
And by the way, no kid should be attending a school so far from home in the first place. But your favorite landgrabbers built skycrapers and other nonsensical concrete structures where there should have been public schools.
Truth is, you Kenyans believe in competition, not sharing. You don't mind the cut throat education system, all you want is ONLY your children to get ahead of the others. That's why you wake them up at 3am and accept #competentencybasedcurriculum even tho it promotes inequality.
So as long as you want your kids to be numba 1 at any cost, as long as you don't care what happens to other people's kids in #competencybasedcurriculum, accept and move on. Your kids will always have to wake up earlier than the next ones, even if it's not good for their health.
If we are selfish with others, we will selfish to our own kids. So we want our kids to get ahead in a warped system that is destroying us, instead of supporting those of us who tell you how we can change it?

Sawa. I hope you put your alarm clock for 3 am tonight. Time for school
