Being poor and pregnant in Nairobi is tough enough; now you could also lose your child to a bacteria that has been circulating at the KNH interacting with other bacteria as to become resistant to usual antibiotics.
I have read with distress that we lost 11 neonates to this bacteria last week. Why the disdain for human life GOK? This is the largest referral hospital yet they have inadequate supplies to manage neonates. Nurses are improvising feeding tubes that make neonates bleed......
Bleed through their noses & mouths. A precious being not on the planet for a month is being subjected to immense pain to feed because the biggest referral hospital has no tubes! Fuck this government & fuck you @SicilyKariuki this is happening under your watch! Fix it NOW! 3
@SicilyKariuki We cannot have three neonates sharing cots & constantly infecting each other. This should spur action to close that unit down and fix this situation stat! The mortality rate at this unit is at a whooping 48%! How is this acceptable?
@SicilyKariuki Dr. David Gathara of KEMRI puts the % of neonatal deaths in Naribi hospitals collectively at 39 death for every 1,000 live births. These figures make my heart ache. Healthcare is compromised while our legislators agitate for allowances & perks.
@SicilyKariuki How many nasogastric tubes can be bought, how many neonatal units equipped with the allowances these pigs keep demanding? We need to do better man! What are we saying when we are needlessly losing lives because we lack facilities? This is not on man! I am so distressed. 😭😑
@SicilyKariuki nation.co.ke/news/11-babies…

Nie ma! Thirikari ino haria inginyitie! 😡😡
@SicilyKariuki I can only feel grief. Nasogastric tubes perennially out of stock, the nurses are forced to use syringes and other tubes used to aspirate suck fluids for feeding the babies. It hurts them. Imagine this screaming hungry baby & the nurse that must feed them. Heartbreaking.
@SicilyKariuki Then the KNH administration as usual lethargic in their response & will only wake from their revive after public outcry. Followed by a visit to the unit by @SicilyKariuki to sanitize the situ with promises of action before we do this all again! Tumechoka! Fix this mess!
@SicilyKariuki Our Neonates lives matter, not just at KNH but in all public hospitals across the nation. We cannot compromise on healthcare. There are no second class citizens. Let us uphold the Constitution @SicilyKariuki
@SicilyKariuki Article 43 (1) (a) of the Constitution provides that every person has the right to the highest attainable standard of health, which includes the right to health care services, including reproductive health care. It is a fundamental right!
