National Public Radio's Keith Woods writes today: "Report On Racism, But Ditch The Labels."

Woods isn't arguing that the president ISN'T a racist, in fact he pretty clearly says just the opposite.

1/
Instead, he's arguing that it's not journalism's place to SAY so.

Woods says, "...that's not what journalists do. We report and interview and attribute."

2/
In normal times, perhaps something could be said for this argument. Perhaps this journalistic ideal could even be considered noble.

But these are not normal times.

3/
And history shows us endless examples of those who stood by their professional principles while horror and absolutism rose like a foul tide -- and those people either became the monsters themselves (be it through action OR inaction), or they themselves became victims of it.

4/
When the horror comes, there is no middle ground -- as history demonstrates over and over and over again.

5/
Folks, there comes a point when a nation begins to freefall into totalitarianism where journalism MUST choose to take a stand or be complicit in the resulting horror.

THIS is that time. Right now.

Mr. Woods is wrong.
