Today I was getting into my car at the gas station, texting on my phone. A guy in a white undershirt & bball shorts started saying “Hey Ma. Hey Ma” to get my attention. Inside I was like “Ugh, I don’t want to engage with this man right now...” but he persisted so I said “yea?”
Then he said “Make sure you get the end of that pretty dress in with you!” I looked down and sure enough my new maxi dress hem was hanging out of my door (which I had yet to close). Dude just rescued my outfit & went on about his day. Not trying to holler just being kind.
Hands down that was the most surprisingly pleasant interaction I’ve ever had with a stranger in a parking lot. 😂

I am really surprised & honored to announce that I’ve been named LBGTQ Advocate of the Year by @OutReachLGBT, Madison’s LBGTQ Community Center.
I’ve only been in Madison for 2 years, but I’ve orked hard w/ my political collective to move our city toward a cop-free Pride & to educate white queer folks about racism via my #DearQueerWhitePeople column in @OurLivesMadison magazine.
It means a lot to be recognized for this work & to know that perhaps it’s actually creating some change at the local level. I know not everyone here is a fan of me or the changes I want to see, but I believe in the work & the #MadisonWI queer community. Thanks yall.

Disability justice/studies & black feminist friends: I’m having a really hard time right now being injured away from my partners & having to be vulnerable around newer friends here in Madison, asking for help, being unshowered/without makeup/crying in front of them.
I’m trying to sit in this vulnerability, this interdependence, this new, unexpected need for care, but am struggling quite a bit. I’m trying to tap into my black feminist, disability justice knowledge...thinking particularly of Audre Lorde, Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha...

It sickens me to my stomach that this story portrays the white supremacist terrorist as a victim than the victim himself. It sickens me but it doesn't surprise me. ELIJAH the 17-year old black boy whose throat was slit by this RACIST was the victim!

Yesterday a judge in San Francisco issued an injunction to stop the “Remain in Mexico” policy. This made asylum seekers wait in Mexico while their asylum cases proceed.

It’s dangerous to force those fleeing violence to stay in another country.
We know this because our clients have told us stories of what they’ve gone through.

This is one of them.
