Disability justice/studies & black feminist friends: I’m having a really hard time right now being injured away from my partners & having to be vulnerable around newer friends here in Madison, asking for help, being unshowered/without makeup/crying in front of them.
I’m trying to sit in this vulnerability, this interdependence, this new, unexpected need for care, but am struggling quite a bit. I’m trying to tap into my black feminist, disability justice knowledge...thinking particularly of Audre Lorde, Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha...
Share your fav quotes about self-care, interdependence, care work, vulnerability, & queer kinship to help my currently serotonin depleted, pain distracted brain remember the things I know I know, but am struggling to believe/enact right now?
In other words, I’m looking for words of wisdom but not “advice” in any traditional sense. Theory is therapy. At its best, helps us make sense of the world without telling us what to do. It guides us, gives us new ways to think, that ultimately influence how we act & feel.
(I fully recognize that this is nerdy AF that what I need most right now are quotes from my favorite feminist of color theorists, but truly, these are the most healing/motivating things for me)

I am really surprised & honored to announce that I’ve been named LBGTQ Advocate of the Year by @OutReachLGBT, Madison’s LBGTQ Community Center.
I’ve only been in Madison for 2 years, but I’ve orked hard w/ my political collective to move our city toward a cop-free Pride & to educate white queer folks about racism via my #DearQueerWhitePeople column in @OurLivesMadison magazine.
It means a lot to be recognized for this work & to know that perhaps it’s actually creating some change at the local level. I know not everyone here is a fan of me or the changes I want to see, but I believe in the work & the #MadisonWI queer community. Thanks yall.

-Complete reverse outline process to re-organize my book chapter

Don’t know what a reverse outline is? Ooh baby are you in for a treat!
Thread on #writing & #revision: A reverse outline is a way to see the structure of what you’ve written in a draft in order to reorganize it. You start by marking up a pdf or print copy of your draft & numbering every paragraph. My book chap has 33 paragraphs.
Once you’ve numbered, make a list from 1 to whatever number of paragraphs you have. Re-read each paragraph & write a short summary (a phrase, not even a sentence) describing what each paragraph is about or doing.

These two pictures were taken exactly a year apart. On March 1st 2018, I woke up engulfed in agony and terror and dread. On March 1 2019, I woke up overwhelmed by joy, my hair still damp from last night's swim in the ocean.
The contrast of these two days isn't a fluke: Haritha and I very intentionally scheduled our trip to Cuba to overwrite the memories of the same stretch of days a year earlier. But honestly, even a regular day of my present existence is a beach vacation compared to last winter.

@Archaeotagh had offered to drop off some lunch (which was, in fact, delicious) so when there was a knock on my door, I opened it without looking.
It was missionaries. And they didn't even have the decency to bring me food.
I opened the door, and there was a pair of women, in skirts, standing there. I had a moment of I HAVE MADE A TERRIBLE MISTAKE but now they had seen me so I couldn't just shut the door and pretend I wasn't home.

1. I so appreciate this thread by @ToriGlass (#FF). I believe there is value in this #Exvangelical community we’re building as we work and grow through tensions. I hope we can give each other some grace and take a step back to consider the sources of conflicting trauma responses.
2. Of course, we need to actively work not to elevate white feelings over POC as we do so. We white exvies need to be less fragile about being called out. And we need to recognize how the history of colonialism and white supremacism has given rise to different theologies.
3. Since #Exvangelical really began to become a thing, I and others, like @ToriGlass and @cindy_w_brandt and @brchastain, have advocated for the building of bridges between exvies who leave toxic religion for no religion, and exvies who leave for healthy or better religion.

reminder that when people say "tankies" sometimes they're referring to a shitty ideology and sometimes they're referring to a toxic group of abuse enabling assholes within social justice twitter circles who target trans people without big support networks and try to isolate them
the clique is somewhat made up of that ideology but it can be hard to tell the difference and people not knowing that clique exists leads to some really ignorant "tankie is a slur!!!!!!!" takes when they see people using it
anyway they got riled again and seem to have driven existentialenso off the site. i didn't really know her, just talked to her a couple times and saw her retweeted in my timeline a few times, but it was a shitty thing to do

Michigan is shamelessly attempting to design Medicaid work requirements to disproportionately burden Black beneficiaries. Whether or not this policy is ultimately implemented, please know that it points to larger patterns in the experiences of Black Medicaid beneficiaries.
A Black woman I interviewed in Michigan 5 yrs ago: “if you’re white & you have Medicaid…you are looked upon with more sympathy...it's ‘she’s going through a hard time right now'…If it’s us…then we’re looking for a hand out…& we are treated as such”
Black #Medicaid beneficiaries know exactly what the deal is b/c their experiences inform them. Policies like we are seeing in MI right now fit into a larger set of processes that ultimately undermine equality & democratic citizenship, especially 4 Black folk #FragmentedDemocracy
