guns were stolen from a police station in puerto rico last night. a note was left that said, in spanish, “ricky resign, by silver or lead”

if i were the corrupt and despised governor of puerto rico, i would simply resign.
some puerto rican comrades have pointed out the phrase “plata o plomo” (silver or lead) isn’t really something said there. it’s a phrase associated with colombian narcos.
if the people took the guns, power to them. but it could be another lie to justify crackdowns.

we’re on a lunch break during the sentencing for three members of the white supremacist group RAM who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to riot here in charlottesville in august 2017.
the arguments over the hate crime enhancement are dragging out what would’ve been a quick hearing.
it’s troubling to me that judge moon seems to not comprehend the depth and intensity of antisemitism inherent in this group’s motivation.
while there’s no proof the victims themselves were jewish, it’s clear the assailants believed them to be part of a jewish conspiracy.

there’s debate about exactly what touched off the police violence in puerto rico last night, but rubber bullets and absolutely indiscriminate use of tear gas injured peaceful protesters & journalists, including this getty photographer.
to be clear, that “debate” is about whether or not anyone will ever be able to prove what appears to be obvious police provocateurs in the crowd, police saying protesters had their own tear gas, and images of police throwing fireworks they claim were thrown at them.
hey @ricardorossello, this doesn’t look like fucking rubber to me. you are responsible for every drop of blood in the streets.

only half of the human rights committee’s members showed up to tonight’s meeting. i don’t think i’ve ever seen them come close to having all members present - maybe council shouldn’t have just indiscriminately approved every application?
i think we’re about to watch a powerpoint called “hate crimes in virginia” and i’m prepared to be both bored & extremely bummed out.
the state of virginia’s definition of a hate crime really leaves something to be desired compared to the federal definition...
efforts to expand it have failed in committee in recent years.

Last night, a veteran with a few thousand followers tweeted that he was going to commit suicide. With a few hours and AFTER he deleted his account, THOUSANDS of people had located his family, called the police, and while we aren’t positive yet if he’s been found (cont)
There was a massive search underway. @RealJamesWoods and @DLoesch took up the cause and used their huge following to broadcast messages about progress and notifications of what to do to HELP the investigation (ie: stop calling the police)
When the man tweeted, he said no one cared. What this demonstrated is that literally MILLIONS who reacted to that tweet cared very much. Someone- SOMEONE always cares. My hope is that this veteran is home tonight with his partner and safe.
