Mainstream media is trying to drum up ratings by saying Trump is on track to lose 2020 popular vote but win Electoral College. Wrong. It’s possible, but Trump is currently behind in the states he’d need to win to pull it off. There’s literally no story here, just a ratings grab.
We should spend every waking minute between now and Election Day working to defeat Donald Trump. Can’t take any chances. But this fictional doomsday defeatism from the media, all done to boost ratings, is toxic. If Trump does win in 2020, it’ll only be because of defeatism.
Pundits who said Trump would win in 2016 were wrong. They said he’d win the popular vote. And they made their predictions without knowing the Comey letter was coming, or Russian interference. They were just being randomly alarmist for attention, and should be ignored in 2020.
There are only two legitimate insights right now:

1) If the 2020 election were held today, Trump would lose, and it probably wouldn’t be close

2) So much can (and will) happen between now and the election, it doesn’t matter how badly Trump is losing right now - but he IS losing
Trump doesn’t have a magic wand, most of his evil schemes fail, he couldn’t be further off track for re-election, stop with the defeatism, that shit is contagious. If you’re just worn out, okay, take a break. But stop harming us all with the defeatist crap. Peace.

I like DNC Chair @TomPerez a lot, but this Democratic 2020 debate format is a nightmare. People want to see Biden, Harris, Warren, Sanders and Buttigieg all debating each other on the same stage, not this weird participation trophy format.
If a candidate who’s polling at 0% wants to make an impact, they can debate the other candidates polling at 0% and blow them off the stage. Then that candidate’s numbers will rise and can graduate to the main stage the next time.
This is about picking a nominee and defeating Trump. Too much is at stake for is to be catering to obscure and bizarre candidates who have no support and no business running.

To paraphrase Aaron Sorkin, this isn’t debate camp. It’s not important that everyone gets a turn.

i still think folks are underestimating the danger of this outcome and the real threat it poses to american democracy.
my case for electoral college reform really boils down to the fact that it's simply not sustainable to have these wide splits between the popular vote and the electoral college.
americans have an expectation of one person, one vote, even if that isn't the reality. and two consecutive outcomes where there is significant divergence between the popular vote and the electoral college is the kind of thing that undermines people's faith in the system itself.

1/ I know a few people are excited about Mueller's testimony but I am not.

Mueller released a report that said he failed to establish a criminal conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia to influence the election. That doesn't mean it didn't happen, but the report isn't
2/ exactly a call to impeachment in its examination of what went down between Trump campaign members and Russian nationals. Further, Mueller did not indict a single American on charges of conspiracy with a foreign power to unfairly influence the election.
3/ The report does say, however, with regards to obstruction, that there are ground you can run with if the House wants to go that route.

So that's the report. I'm not excited about Mueller testifying because the guy called a press conference and basically said he wan't going

1/ Yesterday, Starbucks founder Howard Shultz told @60Minutes he is considering running for President as an independent 3rd party candidate.

A quick reminder about 3rd party candidates, and what their impact has been during presidential campaigns over the past 37 years.
2/ In 2000, Ralph Nader won 2,882,955 votes (2.74%), helping to make George W. Bush President.

Nader took 1.63% of votes in Florida; Bush won the state by just .05% -- and the presidency. (Did any Nader policies get implemented because of his run?)
3/ In 2016, Jill Stein & Gary Johnson ran as independents. But for their campaigns, it is likely that, Trump would not be have won the Presidency.

If you doubt that just look at the numbers.
