Very sad to hear Dick Dale, the King of Surf Guitar, died last night at age 81. I was lucky enough to meet Dick, and see him play, when I was a Cool Teen™. theguardian.com/music/2019/mar…
In 1995, Dick wrote a regular column for Music Confidential, an internationally-distributed (albeit short-lived) tabloid-style music magazine that my family published. His column was "Pissed Off and Pissed On," a place for him to vent about whatever he wanted.
A personal highlight was seeing him play the magazine's launch party at the Viper Room in Hollywood, along with most of my family, and random B-list celebs like O.J. Simpson's buddy Kato Kaelin and the kid who played Brian Krakow on My So-Called Life.

In 1990, McDonald's produced an animated anti-drug PSA that brought together ALF, Garfield, TMNT, Ducktales, The Smurfs, Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Muppet Babies, Slimer, The Chipmunks for the most ambitious crossover event in history.
Simulcast on all four major American networks, plus 11 other cable networks, it aired the day before my 13th birthday in 1990, but somehow, I've never heard of it until today. I watched it, and now I'm going to share my pain. I'll let the president and his wife set it up.
The story follows a 14-year-old boy named Michael, whose addiction to marijuana leads him to steal from his family and get tempted by harder drugs. It's like a low-budget Who Framed Roger Rabbit, but about how smoking weed will destroy your life and everyone you know.

1. Start a FaceTime video call.
2. While it's still ringing, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and click "Add Person."
3. Add your own phone number to the call.

You'll now be able to hear the microphone from the other device, even if the owner is nowhere nearby.
Just tested in our office. The other iPhone rang for a minute, and then the call was marked as "Failed"... but I could still hear everything on the other end. 😱

Eu lembro que alguns dos meus professores instigavam a competição de notas entre alunos, faziam questão de dizer a nota dos outros em voz alta e até mesmo humilhar os que não tinham a nota “tão alta”. Outros professores batem no peito pra dizer: comigo ninguém passa.
Naquela época quando eu era ingênua e não tinha aprendido a me impor, ainda não tinha mais de 10 anos na academia, achava normal. Normal pq eu só tinha aquilo como parâmetro. Então eu fui percebendo que eu sentia inveja de alguns colegas. Eu me pegava perguntando: quanto tirou?

29 years ago today, George Holliday was awakened in his Lake View Terrace bedroom by the sound of helicopters. He groggily asked his wife to grab his new Sony Hi-8 camera and shoot footage--he was getting up at 6 to shoot an employee running in the LA marathon--but she declined.
So Holliday grabbed the camera, which had a tape in it on which he'd shot several minutes of family photos, and stepped out onto his second floor balcony. Here he is later posing with his [fairly expensive at the time] camera. He was about 90 feet away from the scene.
Two other Lake View Terrace residents also grabbed their cameras to shoot the scene, which looked like a movie set--helicopters illuminated w/spotlights several LAPD officers hitting a large, dazed man w/batons. Other residents couldn't get a good vantage, and stopped shooting.

#History/#Art thread – From my recent trip to Madurai/Tirunelveli. On Jain sites (some with a rich history dating back to at least the 3rd cent. BCE), early Pandyan rock-cut cave temples (7th-8th cent. CE) & the amazing Vettuvan koil.

Before I start on the places, the history around all this is fascinating & splits opinion. Is it apt to call the script Tamili/Tamil Brahmi? Did it develop independently in the Tamil country/come with the Jain monks from the north? Were 8,000 Jains actually impaled in Madurai?>
>Were the Saivites overaggressive in promoting their faith? Shall only be happy to discuss on these separately (unless it gets too long/irrational). And I’m not posting every inscription from the places here, despite their importance. Again, shall be happy to discuss them.
