Ppl asking: Why, after winning a round against Trump that drew lavish attention to her antisemitism, would Omar go on tv & say she doesn’t regret her antisemitic comments, then sponsor a BDS resolution that compares Israel to Nazi Germany?

Again: *The antisemitism is the point.*
The resolution defending her from Trump has even Dems talking about how bad the optics are in how it contrasts with her ability to defeat a resolution criticizing her antisemitism. But that’s the point. It’s useful to her. It’s good politics from her standpoint!
She is continually rewarded for her antisemitism. It’s not a byproduct of her appeal. *It’s her appeal.* That’s why she waves it around triumphantly, why she specifically courts public fights over antisemitism. And it’s why she doesn’t even hide it. She’s all text, no subtext.

50 years ago today, Perry Wallace walked into Vanderbilt’s Kirkland Hall & spoke to the university’s Human Relations Committee, a group of 9 white administrators convened by Chancellor Alexander Heard. It was one of the most courageous speeches in American sports history (1/23)
This was the summer after Wallace’s sophomore year. He had become the first African American varsity basketball player in SEC history in the '67-'68 season, and he took the opportunity to talk about his experiences with racism on and off the court. (2/23)
It was a tense period in American history. MLK had been assassinated in April. RFK in June. On the eve of the ’68 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, Sports Illustrated was running a 5-part series on racism in sports in July ’68 called "The Black Athlete: A Shameful Story" (3/23)

Got some findings to share on some whacky stuff I've been doing. So, you may know I'm writing this book about how satire is overwhelmingly liberal and outrage is overwhelmingly conservative due to underlying psych traits of the left /right that then shape aesthetic preferences.
Book is going great. should wrap up full draft next month. BUT IN THE MEANTIME... the underlying logic of the argument I'm making gots me thinking... about how the left and the right might be different in their willingness to engage in "hybrid forms" of political expression...
Not just to CREATE IT.. but to like... be willing to HEAR THAT stuff. Hybrid forms - at first, in the book, this is all about Funny Political people. Satire as a genre is inherently hybrid. It's also inefficient, incomplete, and complicated... so its leftiness goes deep.

Students do not need to read The Scarlet Letter (or any other “classic” text) to become successful readers & writers. Crazy how many adults think they do. #ProjectLITchat
Just b/c it’s easier and cheaper and “safer” to run back the same books and lessons and units year after year doesn’t mean it’s right. Especially when it’s not working for a lot of our students and teachers.
And SMH at the people who are pushing for more “complex” texts while simultaneously dismissing the need for more culturally relevant texts.
