This episode of #ExtremelyOffline with @jessesingal & @MrAndyNgo is quite good: stitcher.com/podcast/extrem…

Interesting point raised by co-host @ZaidJilani that significantly higher numbers of US-born Muslims report discrimination than immigrant Muslims. Why might this be the case?
@jessesingal @MrAndyNgo @ZaidJilani In other words, being better integrated might counterintuitively mean experiencing or feeling *more* discrimination. As @zaidjilani & @jessesingal say, if you're more integrated (and likely within the left) you're more likely to see bigotry as a dominant, pervasive force
@jessesingal @MrAndyNgo @ZaidJilani My mom and probably my dad are more aware, in their own lives, of anti-Muslim bigotry, yet they're generally unaware of the framing that America is a bad, sinful, racist country (they don't see America that way) so they're less likely to experience everyday life through that lens
@jessesingal @MrAndyNgo @ZaidJilani The idea that America is a "bad" country I find to be bizarre. It's not a sentiment I can really identify with. The undeniable fact that the US has done terrible things (at home and abroad) seems to bear little relation to whether a country can, in any absolute sense, be "bad"
@jessesingal @MrAndyNgo @ZaidJilani This is one reason why @BetoORourke emphasizing to new immigrants and refugees the centrality of white supremacy in American life seems odd. I don't think that's what my parents heard—or would have been interested in hearing when they came. They, after all, wanted to come here
