As we all wind up for the summer, let's revisit Johnson's first couple of days in office, and how that shapes up

1/
The thread mentioned above was an effort to circumvent the likely lack of substance on policy (and so it has been)

Instead, it suggested looking at other signals

2/
Brexit has been an important element of what Johnson's talked about/done since Wednesday, but he's also pushing a big domestic agenda, even if this looks more like being busy than anything more major

3/
There's been no major reorganisation in Whitehall, so little distraction there, although Gove picking up no-deal prep leaves DExEU even more short on purpose.

But one to be revisit another time

4/
And then personnel.

Packing Cabinet w strong Leave figures is a clear statement of intent, as is the on-boarding of new staff in No.10.

But...

5/
Gove has not been keen on no-deal, Barclay is still on point at DExEU and Johnson himself holds the crucial negotiating position, so maybe more ambivalent than it looks.

6/
Also, Cabinet has never been the problem here: Parliament is, and there the Leadsom/Rees-Mogg switch looks ltd in impact

7/
Overall, the impression is of looking tough, but without substance yet coming through to back that up
