Jason Leopold fucked up the one big impeachment watergate story of Mueller investigation trashing whatever cred Buzzfeed had left and Ben Smith still said , “yeah he’s still more important than @dcbigjohn.”

I love what Twitter has done to these people. It’s like Ezra Klein & Dave Weigel’s Jurnolist out in the open every day for everyone to see.

This guy was a top Buzzfeed reporter. He appeared on Meet the Press. He’s still going after a 15 year old kid. Ben Jacobs is bumming a smoke thinking they are still at the cop kids table. But don’t celebrate with coding language when these guys hit the unemployment line.
Gosh maybe the problem with journalism isn’t forklift operators on Facebook and maybe it’s the character of journalists being hired.

Or in @dcbigjohn case, fired.

So I guess we’re really doing “AKSHULLY Baltimore is in great shape!”’now.
I'm fine with leaving Trump and his dumb tweets out of the discussion when it comes to the decades long problems with places like Baltimore. The problem is the press and Dems don't want to have that conversation either and haven't for quite some time.

Maybe @brianstelter should turn Fox News off for a bit and start asking why his network is hiring anti-Semitic photographers & giving a platform to literal nazis all within the a week of each other.
Hope it was a great newsletter guys.
It’s so weird how CNN has an entire crack team dedicated to finding old tweets or going after gif makers & forklift operators but they somehow missed those.

A note on #impeachment -

In a court of law, under non-presidential circumstances, impeachment is a tool litigation attorneys use to discredit the opposing side's witnesses at trial. When said witness takes the stand under oath attys. present evidence contrary to what the witness
claims. This weakens the other side's case by discrediting impeached witnesses's testimony. Once a witness has been impeached - by presentment of inconsistent testimony - the judge/jury can no longer use the impeached witnesses's testimony in reaching a verdict.
Simply put, they aren't trustworthy. In the case of Presidential impeachment that broad definition of impeachment applies, but the impeachment tool is used for a very different purpose. Under the Constitution, a sitting President cannot be tried in a court of law for anything.

We forget how much heat was on Trump in the first quarter of 2017: appointees were being investigated and resigning and mainstream liberals viewed him as utterly illigitmate. At the time, I thought an #impeachment hearing was likely, and that many Republicans would join in.
Things cooled off considerably for, as I see it, two fundamental reasons: The Syria strikes and Trump and the GOP’s mutual embrace.
The Syria strikes assured the Deep State (an often misused term, but a legit one) that Trump would pursue “business as usual” in American foreign policy; this was confirmed by an increase of troops in Afghanistan and more.
