‘8-year-old girl [...] injured when a white phosphorus shell ripped through her home [...] When she reached the operating room, white powder covered her skin, the oxygen mask on her face started to melt, and flames appeared when doctors attempted to scrape away the dead tissue’
‘White phosphorus munitions cause particularly severe injuries, including chemical burns down to the bone. Wounds contaminated by white phosphorus can reignite days later when bandages are removed, [or] produce poisoning that leads to organ failure and death’
unlike a lot of munitions there aren’t really good descriptions of what white phosphorous injuries feel like, because it is too good at killing people
the reason why it’s not a banned weapon is that it’s not supposed to burn people. the supposed effect is to create smoke screens

as seen above, the smoke is incredibly toxic
but more than that it’s now been acknowledged by US Marines that at Fallujah the standard procedure was to fire it at insurgents to try and make them break cover. also commonly used for no comprehensible smoke generating purpose by the IDF
That particular war crimes loophole is now so normalised that it’s in the videogames. Cool
(hideous burns)
here’s a fifteen year old Palestinian boy who got a glancing blow from a few particles of WP when the IDF hit the Gaza village of Khoza’a. same strike killed his grandfather outright, his 16 year old sister survived a ten hour surgery then died of organ failure
this is all public domain information and goes a long way towards explaining why I feel like screaming in public, all the time. anyway now it’s entertainment also
