If you're confused how this stuff works, somewhere on FB/Twitter/etc servers your data is being stored & indexed in a table against your user id, a/k/a your "primary key."
As a user of a social media service, you should have the right to say: see all that data indexed against my ID? All that shit belongs to me, and you can't mine it, model it, target it, or monetize it without my say so, or you paying me.
Furthermore, you should have the right to access and download a copy of any data stored against your user ID. And, if you want, delete it permanently no matter how inconvenient it is to FB or Twitter.
