Everyone who's criticising #PrinceHarry about his "unconscious bias" (UB) quotes should sit down and listen to people who have been directly impacted by UB to their lives.

You'll NEVER understand it if it's not affected you.
Take the time to listen, not judge.
Young people today from minority groups will get ahead much further than those before them literally because people like #PrinceHarry are speaking up.

When white males get on board and understand Unconscious Bias, things change. We need EVERYONE to "get it".
Years ago when I worked in music TV, because of my background and race, my colleagues were determined to label me "hip hop girl"even tho I loved classical & more.

In the end after years of working across ALL music I was formally placed in black music. It was "embrace it or P45"
At the time I was confidentially told by a WOC colleague that I was being paid 10K less than a white male counterpart.
Our mutual boss at the time said I did a better job, better talent, better ratings, public perception on the platform.
Yet I was worth less?!
They back paid me
Years later after hearing me speak on @BBCRadio4 #womanshour a former head of a company called to congratulate me...and apologise.

He apologised for not having seen that I had the potential to be a leader at his company who championed talent and spoke well.
He said he hadn't listened to my immediate line managers at the time ( a gay man and a black woman), who had championed me and insisted I would make SVP level.

He admitted he "just couldn't see it".

He couldn't see it cos he had never seen it.

We need to be seen!
He also added some ridiculous stuff about me being " so into fashion and going out and having fun with fabulous friends" he didn't think "I would want the extra responsibility"
!?
This is my friends is what happens when u live your best life/people judge you & your capabilities
That's why I tell young women.
U start in life with a sense of limitless possibilities & confidence.
Then people label u/chip away at yo confidence till u shrink yoself.
Never be afraid of celebrating u, amplifying yo value & worth.
The playing field is NOT level.
Play YOUR cards
Unconscious Bias STILL impacts me.
Everytime a boss says "that was a brilliant interview u did.We should've entered it for awards...but we forgot"
They "forgot".
There are some staff members that are never forgotten/credited for MORE than they do...then there are the rest of us
So if you know that you are talented don't make the mistakes those before u made in trusting the system.
Unconscious Bias is everywhere.
