@Historian_Steve One takeaway I notice is that the only Dems who did well in these states post-1964 were Carter and Clinton, both white Southerners. Gore was from Tennessee, but that apparently wasn't sufficient to compete against "Texan" George W Bush.
@Historian_Steve Hillary did far worse than Bill, needless to say. Many reasons for that, no doubt, one of which (perhaps) is that she was never perceived as an authentic Southerner even though she lived in Arkansas for many years.
