This is worth a read. From my perspective, this is the sort of movement you'd expect to see when a country is failing (and increasingly insecure).

"Nonetheless, the conference consensus seems clear: it is time for conservatives to overcome their skepticism of the state."

As things fail, authoritarianism tends to increase in popularity. I see it on both the "right" and the "left."
Liberty becomes less popular, not more popular, as things fail. This is my biggest concern going forward.
"When you consider the various proposals of the national conservatives, it certainly seems like they embrace a right-wing version of the Prussian model that was successfully appropriated by the Left a century ago."
"If national conservatives take up the weapons of their enemies to fight them, they will become that which they sought to destroy."

Precisely correct. The ends never justify the means. That is the philosophy of a tyrant.
"The great virtue of the older kind of conservatism was its organic link to the republican democracy of the Founding. Making peace with the power of the national government to achieve admittedly desirable social goals will sever this link."
Here's the dilemma we face going forward. In recent decades, many denied there was even a problem. We're now entering an era where everyone admits we have problems, but it'll be bad solutions that kill us. Authoritarian solutions offer an easy choice for many and are a real risk.
