Hi hi. On my way back to El Paso and thought I'd share a few thoughts from last night's debate.
1. I'm so proud of @betoorourke. He showed his fluency across every issue, the strength of his plans, the values that drive him--he's a leader who tells you directly what he believes and will be a President for everyone.
2. Having said that, I saw this tweet last night and chuckled — mostly because I personally hate debates. It’s a crappy format that incentives the behavior everyone hates about politics.
3. A thing I love about Beto is how he makes us all rethink the rules of the game. He didn’t want to pick a forced fight to get attention or appeal to people who tweet for a living. He wanted to talk about real issues that matter to real people that he’s heard from. So he did.
4. He talked about Flint before anyone. He talked about the legacy of slavery before anyone. He talked about a path to universal, guaranteed health care WITHOUT raising taxes on working families. And he did it without manufactured-for-TV histrionics or pre-canned one-liners.
5. And it turns out people appreciate it when you talk directly about the issues people care about in a way that treats them like adults. We’re having our best fundraising day all quarter. We’re seeing responses like this from all over the country:
6. Also, Detroit was awesome.
