@_SrPelo_ This is mean. I got made fun of like this all the time when I made cartoons and it fucking sucked. It didn’t give me a thick skin or make me a better artist or make me think more about what I was doing, it just hurt.
@_SrPelo_ The fact that all the people patting you on the back for this cartoon are old school-newgrounds types with very few “STAs” commenting speaks volumes. You can use this thread to pretend it’s all in good fun, but it’s not fun, it’s mean. It hurts.
@_SrPelo_ These are kids who are all creating, sharing themselves, and trying to find a way to belong. This video only serves to segregate two groups of individuals both primarily populated by people who desperately want to connect with one another.

Many people upset over this, which I get. LGBTQ+ needs more representation; a lot of people looked up to them as such. I also see the value in this stance: male-male friendships can and tend to be toxic and bullying. I love to see platonic male relationships portrayed healthily.
As a young boy I was taught by other kids that teasing and bullying my male friends was how we bonded. It was painful. I’m very happy that there are male characters like Bert and Ernie that can tell each other “I love you” and mean it in a non-romantic way.
I don’t mean to imply this stance is better, or anything like that. All I mean to say is that this perspective too has value, and is not wholly reductive in representative quality.

For those upset over Thundercats right now: there was a visually stunning, heartfelt, story driven, action oriented reboot of Thundercats in 2011 that exceeded all expectations and showed a passionate respect to the source material. Nobody watched it and it was cancelled.
The 2011 Thundercats series featured a sequential story, but often featured one off episodes, which ended up being some of the best episodes of the show.
One of my favorite episodes of 2011 Thundercats is Song of the Petalars, a beautiful episode about a race of flower people who have a 24 Hour life span. Touched by a young Petalar hero who spends his whole, short life striving for greatness, Lion-O finds renewed courage.

I know it's "woke" to demonize payday lenders, using annualized % rates on 2-week loans. But when I was a college dropout (broke + no credit) and had an unexpected car breakdown, a payday lender was the only way I was able to get my car fixed so I didn't lose my job
How much do you think you should be able to charge me if I borrowed $500 from you for 2 weeks?

I mean that's a fun claim to tweet, but it's false. After NC eliminated payday lenders, there wasn't a sudden rush of community lenders or government programs to fill the void

After the SOTU last night, there's a lot of talk today about ending the HIV epidemic. Regardless of what the Trump administration actually does, it's worth taking some time to look at the most important work that needs to be done - this informs what we need to fight for.
Because a cure for HIV has been so elusive, from an epidemiological standpoint, ending the HIV epidemic largely means preventing new infections. (This is almost tautological: if we can't cure HIV, the only other way to reduce its prevalence is to stop it from spreading.)
For the first ~30 years of HIV, prevention efforts (to the extent they existed) were largely focused on three things:

- testing blood before blood/tissue donation
- condoms for gay men, trans women, and sex workers
- needles for IV drug users

It was this week in 2006 when I accepted a job on a candidate’s 2008 exploratory campaign.

To every staffer getting ready to help organize & support our next presidential nominee, good luck on campaign trail the next 18 months - it can be brutal, but we need you more than ever.
Remember to never work for a candidate because you think they will win - who knows - find inspiration and someone you know who will inspire others, who gets you so excited about restoring trust to the office you’ll sleep in your car & think inflatable mattress “aren’t that bad”.
And if you can, work with your friends. You are about to spend ALOT time together.

And if you don’t end up on the same team with your friends, remember you will all soon be part of a bigger team, a more important cause, in 15 months.

Now get some sleep and go kick some ass.

I’m torn on how to approach the idea of luck. I’m the first to admit that I am one of the luckiest people on the planet. To be born into a prosperous American family in 1960 with smart parents is to start life on third base. The odds against my very existence are astronomical.
I’ve always felt that the luckiest people I know had a talent for recognizing circumstances, not of their own making, that were conducive to a favorable outcome and their ability to quickly take advantage of them.
In other words, dumb luck was just that, it required no awareness on the person’s part, whereas “smart” luck involved awareness followed by action before the circumstances changed.
