Thread on the #Zomatoindia controversy
1n as pointed out Food preference is socially acceptable (rightly so) but Human Discrimination is fundamentally bigotry (rightly so). However why does this not apply to Akshay Patra who faced a campaign to force “secular” food preferences?
2n for example the Waqf too gets government funding why not impose pork on them? These same chaps When Air India which was government funded, switched to vegetarian for economic reasons there was an uproar nytimes.com/2017/07/10/wor…
3n so on the one hand they have no issues with Waqf’s receiving government money and sticking to their religious beliefs, but AkshayaPatra which does the same must not. Neither should air india despite the economics of a simplified Lowest Common Denominator meal.
4n the second issue here is virtue signalling. Let’s be clear this Amit fellow is a low life bigot. Defending him is to defend the indefensible. As @IfraJan_ pointed out you can have food preferences just not human preferences.
5n However what @deepigoyal did here was essentially to profit off bigotry. The man is from an alleged “elite” institute - an IIT graduate but has no moral or ethical qualms getting free publicity off the bigotry of others. We call creeps like him Vultures
6n so here lies the problem
1) you can have food preferences
2) you can NOT have people preferences
3) @Zomato did the right thing saying No
4) @deepigoyal is a vulture for seeking publicity from bigotry
5) Amit is UNDENIABLY a bigot
6) LeLis need to introspect on how they’ve ...
7n ....behaved hypocritically on food preferences in the pas because government funding or not you can’t impose your food preferences on the recipient organisation. If you change stances on this it makes you out to be a hypocrite
