This is how I find out that Neil DeGrasse Tyson actually said something sensible for once.
By the way, his conclusion about emotions rather than reason driving people's responses is correct, but there's even better and more specific data on this when it comes to gun crimes, murder rates, and mass shootings.
I've just got to point out what a perverse incentive system we've set up for @neiltyson. He gives us a woozy, half-baked deepity, and everybody love him. He says something that brings actual data to bear in a sensible way, and everybody hates him.
@neiltyson BTW, I touch on briefly on both issues--the narrow issue of gun crime and the wider issue of facts versus emotions--in this piece.
